RE: Coronavirus Symptoms - Stage 1?

Hi,

I received a stage 1 in July 2019. I now have coronavirus symptoms and therefore have to self isolate. I am due in tomorrow and Sunday (as I only work weekends). Is this going to put me on a stage 2? I am concerned as I can't go in incase I make others unwell, but I also don't want to be put onto a new stage.

Can anyone help? I have had no absences since July :(

The process is 2 absences or more then 6days i think in the next 6month to trigger a stage 2 so if you've not had a day off since then then it has reset. Although in terms of pay when off sick you get 6months worth of pay in a 4years period so don't know how long you were off? Pretty sure i also read a union post where any absence linked to potential coronavirus would go down on your record but wouldn't count towards any stage process

I think I was previously off for max 6 days!

I have once triggered a stage 1 about 4 years ago too. However, in general, I'm usually quite well.

Supposedly nothing corona-virus related will impact you as far as stage warnings go, but it'll be interesting to see how many managers attempt to push there luck, if you do, get the union involved it'll get sorted in your favour pretty quickly id imagine.

you can self isolate without fear of it affecting the attendance procedure. if you go to nhs isolation site and put in your date of birth they give you a number that then gives you a downloaded self isolation sicknote that is valid for 7 days. 14 if it is someone else in your household.

plus you won't be on the stage one now anyway. its is only valid for 6 months.

Short answer is no. Nothing will happen with regards to any coronavirus related absence.
This has come down from the top so don't accept any attempt to include this in the absence process.

they can stage you all they like, but if it ever gets to stage 3 and you have your interview with management and union and one of the absences is coronavirus theyre going to probably be angry with the manager who staged you for it and wasting everyones time.

Don't worry then and do the sensible thing for others and yourself and stay at home! The jobs going to be here when this is all over but the main thing is so are you. i was off last year for a fair few weeks with a leg injury and was staged for that but its run out as well as was at a similar time to you. Personally i prefer to be at work to some degree although the office setup isn't the best to be honest but once outside its not too bad baring a few selfish people and its just good for my mental health to be working but if theres any chance that you or some one you live with has symptoms then you need to isolate! I definitely would without hesitation

Thanks all for the advice. I was going to self-isolate regardless as I would hate to pass anything onto someone else.
