WHY ARE WE IN THIS MESS IN THE FIRST PLACE
No I don't think the poster is saying that I think we should test as many as we can but. The UK government did not foresee this even though China had it before us and we know how Italy was affected just before us could we have made provision of all the kit we need a priority!Tman wrote:When there's apparently a shortage of testing kits you think some should be used to test whether someone who died of a heart attack, a car crash or advanced cancer had Covid 19 as well?wacko74 wrote:sindba wrote: Nor are they distinguishing between people who have died with Coronavirus and those who have died from Coronavirus.

WHY ARE WE IN THIS MESS IN THE FIRST PLACE
I watched the David Icke video when it first came out. It wasn't totally convincing but interesting enough for me to search for other material.emu72 wrote:people are telling me to wake up and listen to david icke.he explains a lot about the situation we are in.a lot of his videos have been taken down.why is that? surely they haven’t got anything to hide.
I was surprised to see how many different views are out there with so called experts having very different opinions.

The great thing about the Net is that anyone can easily find an "expert" who will confirm their pre-conceived notions, no matter how mundane or extreme they may be.
Things must be really bad when Icke's self-publicising tripe is given even the merest sliver of credence though.

Wouldn't advocate taking Icke seriously but you'd have to question if his theories are any more ludicrous or dangerous than those proposed by the medical and behavioural scientists and government politicians who, for instance, thought the public would be happy to swallow hundreds of thousands of people dying as long as the pubs stayed open, or believed (with good reason given the subservience of the media) that they'd get away with lying about 'cocooning the vulnerable' by simply keeping care home deaths off of the official records

You sure you're not an Icke disciple too? Both those statements are more than a little wacky.or believed that they'd get away with lying about 'cocooning the vulnerable' by simply keeping care home deaths off of the official records

It could be said that millions of people willingly going into lockdown based on what they are told by the previously un trusted media and government is a little wacky.Tman wrote: You sure you're not an Icke disciple too? Both those statements are more than a little wacky.

WHY ARE WE IN THIS MESS IN THE FIRST PLACE
There’s nothing conspiratorial in my previous post, these things can easily be sourced. The government *were* going to pursue ‘herd immunity’ (link 1) until it became apparent the death toll from doing so would be too great for the public to stomach; they *were* reluctant to lock down the country even though we could see the disastrous state of affairs in Italy and Spain because they thought we’d tire of the restrictions (2); and they *were* promising to “cocoon the vulnerable” (3) but didn’t - if we were including deaths in care homes in the statistics as they are in some countries I think it’s almost certain they’d have done more to minimise harm in those settings.

Of course, hindsight’s a wonderful thing. What concerns me is few members of the public seem to recognise the mistakes that have been made, largely because our woeful media’s spent so little time highlighting them. Given this virus isn’t likely to go away any time soon and we’ll be relying on this same government to make hard choices again in future that’s quite worrying, I’d say.

Angard is right. At the point when other countries were shutting down, Johnson's Government were vaguely talking about "washing your hands", and 250,000 punters were crammed into Cheltenham.
Government advisers were all over TV talking about "herd immunity" and "cocooning" - i.e. letting us all catch it and hundreds of thousands to die.

It seems at the moment they can do no wrong.
Boris has a lot of goodwill.
It'll be interesting to see how long it takes before that all unravels.

Hold Johnson's feet to the fire. He and his Government have been dangerously incompetent, negligent, and they still are (testing, PPE, ventilators, turning a blind eye to dangerous working conditions etc).
It's too late to leave it, when they can brush it all under the carpet, all those deaths they have caused needlessly.

Maybe because the majority of people are pragmatic enough to recognise that this is an unprecedented crisis and so there are no easy textbook solutions?"Murdoch"][

Only because those same people as above believe that this really isn't the time for either trying to score political points (whether warranted or not) and that there'll be plenty of time after to analyse every comment, decision and bulletin.Boris has a lot of goodwill.
Depends how you define "unravel".It'll be interesting to see how long it takes before that all unravels.

Alas, the thousands dying due to negligence won’t have the luxury of analysing every decision and comment after this is all over. But, as Cummings is reported to have said, they’re only pensioners, so what?
And while it’s certainly true there aren’t “easy answers” I’m pretty sure quite a few textbooks *have* been written on how to respond to pandemics. When future, revised editions come out I think Britain will sadly be cited as an example of what *not* to do.
There are lots of people clinging to the idea a sort of VE Day is just around the corner, that one day this will all go away and normal service will be resumed. I think it’s very unlikely that’s going to happen. The government aren’t merely helpless bystanders, decisions they make every day have a bearing on the outcome of this crisis, giving people a free pass on this stuff will sadly lead to more unnecessary deaths in future.

No? What is it you anticipate then? What Dystopian visions do you have of a future UK/world?"AngardWolf"]

Hang a few MP's from lampposts on Westminster bridge to "encourage the others" and stop future deaths? Sounds a little too easy...The government aren’t merely helpless bystanders, decisions they make every day have a bearing on the outcome of this crisis, giving people a free pass on this stuff will sadly lead to more unnecessary deaths in future.
