23.5hrs over 3 days now asking to spread ove 4 days

Hi

23.5 hrs over 3 days cover

As a non rm driver (medical issues) but a car driver I have agreed to drive to a certain point on one of my covers, where I meet the driver load up a trolley, and start work. I then ring the driver when I need topping up. I do not use my car again until I go home nor do I move it from where I parked at start.
My insurance has said that my cover will not be affected as I drive to a place of work and then home at the end - only the place of work has changed, im not working using my car.

The manager has stated that people in my position ie part timers have to work an extra day to make hours up. Can they make us do that?

I risk my health and my life each time I go out not to mention my family too and do not want to increase the risk by going out again on another day can I refuse? and insist 3 days full hours from the d/o

I have no problem with going in to d/o and working my hours but rm will not be able to transport me once im there and I will not be able to use my car after starting work.

I have also been asked if I am prepared to drive to other duties/postcodes that I do not know, to deliver there, again using my own car - as I do not know the area I would refuse to use my car as I wouldn't be happy parking there.

I have also heard that they may ask me to go in to the d/o and do sorting then walk 30 mins or more to nearest loops, deliver and come back, which I will do if I have to, but I don't know loops and will work to time and bring back undelivered mail and be back at office on my time

Any thoughts /opinions?

Do the c***s no favours. Work until your time, then go home. Let the screws worry about it.
Can't answer if you are obliged to change the amount of days you work but it sounds like the boss is trying it on.
Consult your rep.

Hi Sir Henry

Thanks for your reply.

I suppose the problem is if I meet the driver at 9.30 and work my hours (or until the post has all been delivered), the manager can say I am not working my full hours, so need to do another day to make up?
I would say that I drive to a walk (RM wouldn't be able to transport me otherwise), and do the work of that whole half of the duty ie driver and passenger bar large parcels that the driver would have to do anyway.
The fact I cant go in and do the sorting and then go to the walk is because I do not have business insurance and cant drive whilst Im working - only to and from a place of work. In my eyes I am using my personal transport to enable the duty to be completed in full, and in doing so keeping my and my family risk to a minimum.
If I agree to a fourth day I will increase my risk as my exposure to possible infection will be greater, and all this because I have helped them out by using our car to get to the round which could not happen if I drove to the unit.
I am not aware if other car drivers who are doing exactly the same have been asked to do a fourth day.
I am tempted to just say I will drive to the d/o, walk to where ever they want me to after the sorting , I wont know the duty, do my hours, bring back what is not delivered and go home, thus stopping the manager from trying to get me out for an extra day!

I would prefer to stay as I am and keep away from d/o but do not want to do a fourth day of exsposure, not sure how it works for others?
