You're comparing very different societies though. The personal restrictions put in place in places like Shanghai, Seoul etc weren't something that any Western politician would impose without a lot of planning and clear evidence that it would help the situation.

The only thing we can now do is treat those who are ill and embark on testing everyone in the UK it is only then we can measure the response. Without that we are pissing in the wind and doing the wrong thing at wrong time we need a better testing system and fast!

Murdoch wrote:The premise of that article is correct, the tendencies of people will not change in the slightest because of this pandemic.

Take a current example, Apple and Google are trying to "help", by building a tracking system into their phone's operating system, that will soak up all the data of who you've been close to, to "contact trace". Their go to mindset is, "we need to harvest more of your data". China will respond with more authoritarianism. The globalists will call for more supranational responses, i.e. world governance. The racists will blame the Chinese. The xenophobic will blame the immigrants. Royal Mail will claim letters are down, and try and strip back the service. And so it repeats...
:Applause Totally agree Murdoch. I would have thought the Best thing Apple could do would be to make an App that "BEEPS" everytime someone comes within 2m! :thumbup

Perhaps then more of these "i-phone zombies" would observe Social Distancing? :cuppa

An interesting point on the news today: In a lot of these countries people have been habitually wearing facemasks, when out in public, for some years. Don't you remember seeing the Chinese Tourists in the UK wearing them years ago? :cuppa

I was given some Advice as this Virus was kicking Off.... "Limit your Social Media Exposure and Ration your News Intake" :hmmmm I've taken it and consider it Good Advice. :thumbup Otherwise you'll end up listening to every crackpot theory around the world, and scare the shite out of yourself. Just follow the "Official" Advice and use common sense. :cuppa

It wasn't to hide anything. He broke Youtube policies which he, you and I agreed to when setting up a channel/account. Free Speech does not apply to youtube in either the UK or the US, its a corporate entity which can set and enforce its own rules.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-52198946" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Policy violation

The interview was watched by about 65,000 people as it was streamed, some of whom clicked an on-screen button to trigger payments to make their live chat reactions stand out.

YouTube only deleted the content after the session had ended, despite being aware of the broadcast while it was ongoing.

It changed its rules after the BBC questioned why the video was permitted.

"We have clear policies that prohibit videos promoting medically unsubstantiated methods to prevent the coronavirus in place of seeking medical treatment, and we quickly remove videos violating these policies when flagged to us," a spokeswoman for YouTube told the BBC.

"Now any content that disputes the existence or transmission of Covid-19, as described by the WHO [World Health Organization] and local health authorities is in violation of YouTube policies.

"This includes conspiracy theories which claim that the symptoms are caused by 5G.

Spot on.

When we all saw what was happening in those countries our Government did nothing. Prompt shutting of borders and other measures would have put us in a much better place at the moment. Instead our Government did nothing till it was to late.
The virus was probably already in the country and given the amount of Brits abroad at any one time then there is no feasible way of stopping it coming into the country.

What caused more harm to the UK is despite several other countries going into lockdown our Government decided to maintain a business as usual approach. While Ireland was shutting it's pubs and cancelling St Patrick's Day festivities we had concerts in full stadiums and over a quarter of a million people congregating on Cheltenham racecourse.

Yep, and while I understand the cultural differences (between ourselves and Asian countries) argument, unfortunately the behavioural scientists at the ‘nudge unit’ got it badly wrong - people have adhered to the lockdown restrictions unbelievably well, a few idiots aside, young people in particular are making huge sacrifices to benefit mostly older, more vulnerable citizens, polls show there’s more support for increasing and extending the restrictions than lifting them, and while the government was faffing around many people were taking matters into their own hands, restricting their interactions with strangers, even withdrawing their kids from school. People wanted clear, firm advice, and had it come, and come earlier, we might’ve avoided several thousands of deaths.

True. Trouble is,the government won't admit to it and neither will the health experts admit it either. It's ironic that if we had the lockdown earlier and not allowed any flights from abroad into the country, there would probably be thousands fewer deaths, less strain on the NHS,less demand for PPE and ventilators and probably a much healthier economy as people could have been reintroduced into work much quicker and more effectively.

The governments actions to a lockdown are akin to locking the stable door when hundreds of horses have already bolted. It didn't help that it has also took them an age just to get some testing done on any scale.

And people say how good our NHS is and yet they are probably rife with Corona virus,it's that bad patients are dying with it even though they most likely didn't have it when they went in. The lack of PPE is probably just the tip of a very large iceberg

Even the premier League and football championship decided to postpone fixtures before the government decided to get it's kit on and act.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Boris Johnson and his Tory Govt

-refused to follow scientific advice ahd shut down too late. 250, 000 at Cheltenham etc. Followed a disastrous "herd immunity" strategy at the start, for political end economic reasons.
-have underfunded the NHS and other public services for a decade
-refused to join in EU efforts to obtain more testing, because they are politically obsessed with "brexit"
-repeatedly lied about testing capacity, PPE availability, and death rates
-were slow and incompetent in obtaining more PPE and testing

That's part of the reason we're on course to be one of the worst affected countries IN THE WORLD.

Yeah, look at this:
CV-19 (April 14, 2020).jpg
The UK had the second worst death rate today (778) after the United States (2,216). Worse than Italy, Spain, and France who're also in the top five worst hit countries. And the overall number of deaths in this country so far stands at 12,107 - fifth worst and climbing; not plateauing as with most other nations.

Nor are they distinguishing between people who have died with Coronavirus and those who have died from Coronavirus.

I suppose the only way to accurately gauge how many lives have been claimed by CV is to look at the overall number of all deaths in 2020 (assuming it only lasts throughout 2020) compared to the annual average.
