As we are being swamped with parcels/packets there is a simple way to slow this .
Post office counters can be told except only ‘necessary’ items when customers post them ( I was usually asked what is inside and if it has any value ) . Or maybe only certain size packets could be sent .
Obviously Rico won’t want this as he is frightened Hermes etc etc will take all the big parcels and RM will lose ‘profits’.
Rather that , than lose a life but hey we are all expendable !

I dont get this attitude. It's not just Rico who should be worried about Hermes ect winning parcel contracts. WE should be worried. At the end of the day if Royal Mail lose contracts that means we lose duties and therefore lose jobs. If we Royal Mail were to do this we should ALL be worried. We might not have a job to return to once this is all over. Or maybe this is just the Walkmen looking after themselves as usual

What part of what’s been happening over the last few months aren’t you getting!?
PEOPLE ARE DYING OUT THERE and all what’s being asked is please help us minimise the risk of any more of us catching this virus.
You seem quite happy to throw your colleagues to the wall, only for profit.
We must be willing to take a hit over this period, like many many businesses. As far as job losses go, do you really think this isn’t going to happen anyway in the future, with this current management in place?
What more important losing duties and potentially jobs or not burying more posties??
Hardly any of the extra parcels we're currently delivering will have been posted at a post office, they're nearly all from businessess, some of my personal favourites from last week were a giant box containing a patio table and chairs, multipacks of cans of pop, boxes of 48 bags of crisps, and a fkn bird table !
Anyway back to the original post, sorry possibly a good idea but it won't catch on.
Edit... perhaps someone can start a thread with the most pointless items they've delivered recently,I'll go with the bird table !

Mine's a HCT round and last few days have been swamped but, packets wise, just take all tracked and any others that i can physically fit in the cart. Can't do anymore than that.

Scenario: - Little old lady on lockdown for 3 months . A kindly neighbour buys her a bird table and sites it outside her window with abundance of bird food . Doris is very happy watching the different variety of birds it attracts .

Doris could turn a plant pot upside down and put some old breadcrumbs down on that.
Doris could voice the opinion stop ordering unnecessary shite off the internet for a maximum of just 6 weeks to ease pressure on the nhs just in case Doris needs to go to hospital herself.

If Doris is sat in a chair, the plant pot would need to be raised up high enough for her to see it out of the window, using.... probably a bird table

Unfortunately this is just the kind of attitude of selfishness and money grabbing behaviour that still prevails in RM even in these times, encouraged from top down who no doubt arre self isolating in Switzerland or second homes in the Cotswolds etc. No care for our own health or, more importantly, the health of fellow workers, the ingrained priority is still MONEY MONEY MONEY. A large proportion of us do think this way and that is the reason I won't go into the office at the moment, there is only a secondary priority in workers' heads for actual infection or passing on the virus.
I want to ask a question why are people so afraid of this virus, after facing cancer and nearly being one of the 450 people who die in this country everyday !!(over 160000 a year) I think if we lose 20000 its still a small amount compared to other diseases, some of you should grow a pair and do your bit RANT OVER

It's 10k already.....plus an estimated 10k in care homes that haven't made it to the official figures.....so we are at your 20k already and not even close to the peak.
It's about to get a lot worse before it starts to get better.

Was your cancer avoidable, no! Exposure to Covid19 can be reduced with fairly simple steps and by managing the situations properly.
As someone who has recovered from a potentially fatal desease i would have thought you would have more respect for life.

It's an estimated 1000 deaths in care homes NOT 10,000. By doing our job we are helping others and ourselves by ourselves I mean we are keeping fit and healthy, and keeping our lungs in tip top condition. Although it is very sad, and i pass on my condolences to the 3 Royal Mail staff families that have lost their lives. I know it sounds horrible but from a work force of 162,000, 3 deaths is better than other industries and I pray there are no more.
