Just wondering if this was something that royal mail is asking as a standard or just my depot?

Happening at mine. Passengers getting to delivery points either by bike, or car.

They shouldn't be using there car to do that unless they've got business use on their car insurance

I thought RM changed this at their end, so you were covered for 'business travel' on their insurance instead of having to make any amendments to your own? You wouldn't be covered for leaving any Parcels/Post in your car, but all other things whilst out on delivery you would?

And you certainly won't have any comeback if you have an accident whilst using a bike during work hours :arrrghhh

Also at mine.. told them where to go. They soon found me something else to do that I could walk with a trolley to.

What mugs are doing this... you risk your own vehicle if you have an accident as you won’t be covered unless you have business insurance, your own fuel and wear and tear on your vehicle

That's the first I've heard of these kinds of arrangements. RM must be getting deperate to get you using your cars. :no no

The last statement that we received from the CWU highlighted that RM Fleet Insurance would only cover you Third Party ONLY! (Obviously they've made other arrangements in your office now). My personal view is that if RM have made the decision to use Singleton Vans (quite correctly) then it's their responsibility to sort the extra transport required ...... and NOT by expecting Posties to use their own cars. :no no

I thought we'd got rid of this problem years ago? I suppose there's been a few years gone by, with a fair turn over of staff, and now RM think they can try it on again? :arrrghhh

What is the appeal to Posties wanting to use their own cars? It used to be that they were often too lazy to bother using the bikes, and preferred to drive around so they could get finished earlier. I can see any advantages during the current situation. We have several "Spare Vans" due to Extra Duties being lapsed which helps out. :cuppa

 Well that's an eye opener. I hope their DOM sends them back out with loads more of all these parcels we've been hearing about? (They'd have loads of room in their cars) Isn't he meant to make sure "We utilise ALL PAID Hours"? :cuppa
