Amazon parcels through the roof, did they ditch Hermes?
Had quite a few this week. Today manager decided it was just packets and parcels day, my van 3/4 full of stuff from 2 walks - still hundreds of packets left behind. Oh well, worry about it Tuesday... meanwhile I have cracked open a rather splendid bottle of bubbly to celebrate another week of survival

Amazon packets are dispatched using different couriers according to a logarithm. There's no human intervention in it. If your office does really well at delivering Amazon packets compared to the couriers available in your area (including Amazon Logistics) and the price difference for sending the item is acceptable then you'll get heaps of Amazon packets. Conversely, if your office fails loads of scans on Amazon items, Amazon packets will drop off substantially in due course. Reported loss and things of that sort also factor in, as does 'availability' (even if your office is crap at everything Amazon wants, if there's no capacity elsewhere, you'll get stuff.

If your DO covers a rural area then you've also got a higher chance of getting Amazon parcels as well

That is very interesting to know. So potentially what has happened is that the algorithm has decided it is unhappy with Hermes (who used to get the majority of items in my area) and instead decided to pay abit extra for royal mail to do it? Sounds good to me. I just wish amazon gave us the option to choose which service we want, as I would choose Royal Mail everytime!

Amazon are probably swamped so bail out on to RM. RM probably giving 75% discount to get as much business as they can, can't handle the amount of work has never crossed RM's mind - so they are probably compensating Amazon for any failures. Head first into the ground appears to be the way forward now.

Fair enough, POD needs to be captured in whatever way possible during this.CPTNemoUK wrote:I've had 2 dpd delivery this week, each time they took a picture of the parcel at my front door just inside he house.Post69 wrote:The Hermes courier around my area doesn't bother knocking he/she just goes down the side gate and launches what ever packet over your gate even if it isn't for you!![]()
and dpd just puts it at the front door again without knocking! Postie knocks then waits at the end of your property.......top feller that's a proper delivery

That's the rumour, DPD to deliver to residential addresses and Parcelforce to deliver to Screwfix stores, Up until Thursday, I've very much still been delivering Screwfix parcels to residential addresses.Munchboii wrote:I have always argued that the more full our vans are the more money Royal Mail would make. Which is why I think its stupid that Hermes, DPD ect have been able to outbid us in recent years for contracts. In theory Royal Mail should be able to put the cheapest bids in and almost run some contracts at a loss, just to fill the vans up. If we are already going to an address with pcks then having a few extra wont hurt ?
I love this job so when I see Royal Mail losing contracts like how Parcel Force have lost some of the Screwfix to DPD it makes me want to tear my hair out![]()
Also, will DPD want to deliver the s**t freight that comes from Screwfix? 3 metre lengths of piping and 60KG boilers, that's correct, I did say 60KG.

Apart from top customers. Nisbets and Screwfix have an exception. No one expects you to lift >30kg on your own, but these parcels are frequently in the network.SpacePhoenix wrote:Isn't the weight limit for PF 30Kg?afcdibby wrote:That's the rumour, DPD to deliver to residential addresses and Parcelforce to deliver to Screwfix stores, Up until Thursday, I've very much still been delivering Screwfix parcels to residential addresses.Munchboii wrote:I have always argued that the more full our vans are the more money Royal Mail would make. We cover the rural areas that Amazon don't want to deliver to - we cover a wide area
Urban stuff Amazon handle themselves
Amazon has opened a processing centre here so will be interesting to see what happens
60 kg Christ :(
The heaviest we get at the mail centre is 15-20kg
Hermes has actually taken a fair chunk of our tracked work recently

Also if a new estate is not on google maps Amazon won’t tend to send their own couriers there. We have a lad who covers several new estates and the poor bloke has 2 York’s a day of Amazon stuff alone plus all the normal stuff, ok if you want the overtime like he does.
