Amazon parcels through the roof, did they ditch Hermes?

Post by Munchboii »

Ive noticed a massive increase in the amount of amazon parcels. We have had about a 10x increase in the amount of amazon special deliveries. Im pretty sure our Sorting Office broke the record for registered items 2 weeks ago so many that we had to fail them until the next day. (Which is unheard off as we always go above and beyond to clear our special deliveries).

Its a good job Royal Mail has suspended the time guarantee! People in my office are saying this is because Amazon have switched from Hermes to Royal Mail? But I just ordered something on Amazon and its coming with Hermes :cry :cry But then again it weighs 2.1kg so maybe Royal Mail have only taken items 2kg or less ? Does anyone know ?

Don’t they have their own courier service? They’re probably not coping with the demand so they palm some of them off to us, just like at Xmas.

Around here they use their own couriers apart from areas that are out in the sticks

Think its just the aren't coping with demand and so RM though they'd kindly when were busy and understaffed put more work on us to help them out for money obviously... Having said that though think they are just using any one as went to a door with a Moon Pig parcel the other day and there was already one from the same company sat on the door from a different delivery firm........ :arrrghhh

Where I am there isnt a amazon courier.

On my rural I deliver parcelforce, royal mail, DX, amazon and yodel. My area doesn't have couriers for these companies so we have contracts and do it for them. My Van's been full to the roof and back every day for the past 3 weeks

My mum had 2 Amazon deliveries yesterday (both identical size small boxes)... one from a white van man (presumably Hermes) and one from RM.

This is an area where we (RM) still have the Amazon contract.

We've always got the Amazon Prime products ( because they're priority and I don't think they trust their own guys to get it there on time) :hmmmm

My Duties also covered by "Dirty Van Man" = Amazon Courier and the Herpes Carrier "Housewife in a Battered Car" is still pottering about (two of them).

The other more Familiar Couriers are still out there but we've always got a sprinkling of their parcels. I think they don't bother sending a Van if there's just a couple of parcels for an area they'll just pass them off to us. :hmmmm

I know it'd probably be classed as Profiteering but it would be nice if RM hiked up all the prices for our Competitors Parcels during this crisis. They're putting Our Staff at greater risk for Their profits. :thumbdown

But then thinking about it if Royal Mail did put up the postage it would still be someone else making a profit out of our risk. :thumbdown Although as a long term strategy if it put some of our smaller competitors out of business it would be better for our long term employment prospects: Discuss. :cuppa

Didn't Royal Mail get a £50 Million fine for doing something similar with Whistl?

I think that's the way it works. We're basically forced to deliver competitors mail at a cheap rate. You wouldn't find any other business doing it. :thumbdown Could you imagine Tescos being forced to sell Asda products on their shelves at a competitive price? :cuppa

The Hermes courier around my area doesn't bother knocking he/she just goes down the side gate and launches what ever packet over your gate even if it isn't for you! :arrrghhh  and dpd just puts it at the front door again without knocking! Postie knocks then waits at the end of your property.......top feller that's a proper delivery :thumbup

When we come out of the EU can the current fair competition rule regulations be changed?

I thought the (un)fair competition rules only applied to letters mail and we were commercially free to do as we please when it comes to pkts?

I have always argued that the more full our vans are the more money Royal Mail would make. Which is why I think its stupid that Hermes, DPD ect have been able to outbid us in recent years for contracts. In theory Royal Mail should be able to put the cheapest bids in and almost run some contracts at a loss, just to fill the vans up. If we are already going to an address with pcks then having a few extra wont hurt ?

I love this job so when I see Royal Mail losing contracts like how Parcel Force have lost some of the Screwfix to DPD it makes me want to tear my hair out
