Thanks for that, my wife applied for universal credit last week, we had to do it as a joint application and just awaiting a decision which will take another 2 weeks. I earned £25k last financial year so I was able to put some money aside which is helping us both.FacesOfStone wrote:Have you looked at signing up for in-work benefits? There’s no sanctioning / conditionality in practice with Universal Credit at the moment, so I’d see any extra money as worthwhile while this situation is ongoing. If there are any kids in the household, the difference would be even more substantial.HTPostman wrote:I’m on a 25 hour contract so usually get 2 ish hours OT in the morning then an hour or 2 in the afternoon, plus usually work my day off. Because my health is priority I’m now just doing pretty much my hours, I don’t mind doing a bit extra (say 30mins) at the end but I come in around 11 to avoid everyone. That’s a loss of 20 hours a week.
It’s a challenge, my take home pay used to be around £400, now it’s £240 (I’m paying back a big tax bill). My wife has lost her job so I’m paying her bills and all in all I’m about £800-£900 a month worse off. I reckon anyone would struggle with that.
But our health takes priority and I hope once the worst of the virus is over there’ll be plenty OT still available. If not I’ll adapt as always.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

I’m just working my contracted hours, I’ve told my manager I do not feel safe in delivery office, he just laughed.
