Extra Work during pandemic

Post by endofdays1982 »

It seems in my office with only half staff, you are being punished for being in work now, expected to jump between 2 walks on alternate days with double mail, double attendance calls and this is a cracker tracks from both walks small ones and oversize for both walks, if I do all that I would be finished at 8pm every night, absoulte joke and shouldn't have to have this added stress at this time of year

How many offices are struggling this badly? Pretty much doing the same round every day and we probably have at least 80% of staff in and clear over 90% of the office each day with some days the full office been clear. Is this rare?

I take my walk, just my parcels and oversize, although I am asked to take tracked at least for other walk, errr no.
There is no second wave for seqenced so I am usually out early enough to complete, also the fact that not many 739 being left due to peeps being at home, if mail/parcels are bad, I will leave mail or parcels and work to my time.

I hate to repeat something that's said on here often, but just go in, work at a decent pace, and just do your hours. Or, if you want it, book the overtime.
The job is only difficult if you make it so,ignore the gaffers attempt at putting you under pressure and you're 90% of the way there. He's only putting you under pressure because he can't cope with his boss leaning on him (or her).
If you do overtime, do it when it suits you. If you never do overtime then inform them you're not available for it. It really is that simple.

Best advice to give so don’t get bored of giving it!

And it’s not punishment either. Most people that see working as instructed up to finish time as ‘punishment’ are those that still, even today, are desperately trying to make time.

Managers at my place know that those that moan, are the ones trying to make time.

Those that look like they’re really relaxed and having a laugh are the ones that will be dumping a problem on them once the prep is finished.

It’s a great way to work and I recommend your office embraces it.

In my office there's a lot who've been working their days off, but don't normally do, for no other reason that they don't want to be stuck at home with nothing to do

It's not extra work as such, it's work that should take you up to your time, use the overrunning procedure if you have any problems, in the PDF....

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Please stop moaning about working hours we're paid for....I for one am happy to work to satisfy customers as long as I'm paid my hours...

Yes its same at most offices....the reason those that are working are being penalised is that Royal Mail have failed to GRASP AN OPPORTUNITY TO PROVE THAT THIS BUSINESS IS ABLE TO COMPETE AND BE THE BEST AT DISTRIBUTING AND DELIVERING LETTERS AND PARCELS.

Not only are we delivering 2days mail on many deliveries but an increase in PROFITABLE PACKETS (many of which are being left behind and not delivered) together with an unprecedented increase in PERSONAL STAMPED MAIL (similar to Xmas)most of which is HIGHLY PROFITABLE INTRA COUNTY/REGION MAIL (also being left in the office undelivered). All because they are intent on managing decline thus imposing an OVERTIME BAN on the backbone of staff that turn up. One assumes they think the majority are going to opt for paid sick absence to stay at home...they certainly seem to be encouraging it!!

And they have suspended dividends - it seems to me they are profiteering on unfortunate circumstances. Workload and hours performance more than cover any sick absence costs.

SHAME ON THEM FOR ACCEPTING AND DELIVERING ON A CHALLENGE TO PROVE THEIR BUSINESS IS VIABLE.

Might be down to attempting to maintain the 2m between everyone. There'll be a limit to how many staff (duty + docket +SA) that a given office can have in without compromising the 2m rule
