5 London bus workers die any RM statistics?
It's almost certain that some postal workers have already died.
And it's vital that we discuss deaths etc, as some posties still aren't taking this deadly disease seriously enough.

I certainly understand Gallows Humour Woody. It's an essential coping mechanism for those Serving in the Forces & Emergency Services, although not really appreciated in most delivery offices.Woody Guthrie wrote:People process differently Dorset.
Some find humour in tragedy.
Some need to know every detail.
Some prefer not to know anything.
Anxiety is a reaction to being put into a situation that you're not comfortable with.
You being the individual and comfortable being what's comforting to you.
I was given some Good Advice when this Crisis First Started: Limit your Social Media and Limit your News Intake. I switched off my Facebook account 2 weeks ago, and only listen to the News 1st thing, when I'm getting ready for work, and then at 1800 with the missus. That's perfectly sufficient for me.
Some people may be using RMC as their only means of Social Media, which is fair enough, I only hope they're not dwelling too much on the Doom & Gloom Scenarios favoured by the Tabloids and some News Channels, it's not healthy for you (no pun intended)

All I can say again is wear a mask or snood to cover your mouth and tell people in the office they should be doing it also. Royal Mail do not care about your health so you have to get your own protection. Delivery offices are not safe under RM policy now we know that the virus can be spread via breathing and talking. Wear a mask or snood to cover your mouth and nose.

For sure we won't be told of deaths by the company, we will find out from social media or other means. Gallows humour is great, but only alongside real change in the workplace to adapt to the situation and I personally see some distancing efforts amongst staff but a lot are not getting this crisis. The company are making efforts on a local level where I work but our own guys are not always helping the situation.Compulsory masks would help the less 'engaged' staff from infecting the rest of us.

Masks are dangerous when not used properly. Those who wear them in my office are constantly adjusting them and in doing so would put any virus on their gloves/hands straight up to a nice warm moist area near the mouth and nose.twiddledumb wrote:All I can say again is wear a mask or snood to cover your mouth and tell people in the office they should be doing it also. Yep. Also, the nice warm, moist surface of a poor quality mask is the perfect environment for a virus that gets into your body via your face.antcpfc wrote:Masks are dangerous when not used properly. Posties wearing the same pair of gloves all day with less washing, and a scarf over their face that they've had on for days, are at more risk than someone who does nothing apart from washing hands constantly.

But this is the problem, once we are out we don't have anywhere to wash our hands. I'll take my chances with gloves.sindba wrote:

I think you misunderstand what I was trying to say Twoloops. I'm NOT turning a Blind Eye to this situation, that woud be irresponsible. We're lucky that we get all the CWU updates, often on a daily basis, and they're displayed within the main office were everyone can see them. I listen to the news in the morning and watch the 1800 News on TV. So I know what the Government guidlines are, and I follow them.twoloops wrote:You can’t just turn blind & plod on Plodder it’s time everyone switched on, we are working in unsafe offices & as a result of RM profit before people a lot of friends & family & work mates will die of civid-19.
However I've had enough of all the crap that's being shared on Social Media, and I don't listen to every journalist that's trying to make a name for themselves by introducing the latest shock/horror article accompanied by inflamatory language.
We're lucky that our DO is quite a modern Industrial unit with good washing & toilet facilities, and plenty of room. I think we've done as much as is physically possible (without Closing) to aid social distancing. TBH the main problem is our own colleagues.

COVID 19 – UPDATE
It is with great sadness we have been advised that two postal workers, Bola Omoyeni and Stefan Haluszczak, tragically died in hospital over the weekend after contracting Covid19.
Bola worked at the National Distribution Centre in Northampton and was also a long standing CWU representative, who for many years had held a position at National level on our Race Advisory Committee. He was a friend and colleague to many CWU reps around the country and made a great contribution to representing our members. Bola had spent over 30 years working for Royal Mail.
Stefan was also a long standing employee of Royal Mail, who worked at the Coventry Parcels Hub. He was very well respected in the office and had worked for the company for 8 years.
We are sure we speak on behalf of the whole of the union in sending our sincere condolences
to the family and friends of both of our colleagues who passed away.
The union is in contact with our local Branch and Royal Mail to ascertain the full circumstances and we will be supporting our members and the Branch in dealing with the situation.
The thoughts of the whole of the CWU are with the families and friends of our two members who tragically passed away over the weekend.
Yours sincerely
