I have rarely been sick in my past 3 years at Royal Mail
At worst 1 year I had only 2 weeks off.
With the state of the world and this company not even trying its pushed my depression and anxiety into overload.
I don’t know the ins and outs of how sick pay works if my doctor was to sign me off for several weeks?
Hoping some of you can educate me , as it’s getting to a point my own mental health is rapidly deteriorating.
Is it less pay after certain amount of weeks? Is it dependant on certain medical things?

How does sick pay work?
6 months full pay followed by 6 months half pay and any allowances you receive are lost after 8 weeks ( not sure if this is just shift allowance ) I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.Timecode wrote:I have rarely been sick in my past 3 years at Royal Mail

They count your time off over the previous 4 years. So if you add up all your absences over the last 4 years and it comes to one month you will receive 5 months full pay before dropping to half pay. Doesn’t depend on the nature of the sickness. You can self certificate for the first 7 days and after that will need a sick note from a doctor. Make sure you send your sick notes in on time as I think they have the right to stop pay with 48 hours warning if sick notes aren’t provided when requested. They will probably also want to maintain contact with you during the period you are off. You also need to be aware that even a single absence can trigger an attendance review, I think 14 days will trigger a stage one even if it’s your only absence in the last 12 months.

Full rate will be paid for a maximum of 6 months
in any calendar year. Further periods will be paid
at half rate. However, there will be no pay when
your absence totals 12 months or more (with or
without pay) in any four year period.

Thanks for that. Seems I have slightly misunderstood how it works. A subtle difference but an important one for some peopleYamr1 wrote:Full rate will be paid for a maximum of 6 months
