• This morning the postman brought a special delivery parcel to my door. He apologised profusely for the fact it arrived an hour later than the "guaranteed" 9am delivery because the sorters at the depot couldn't load a van in time. "I wish you would complain," he said plaintively, "shoddy service is unacceptable, and it's demoralising for Post Office employees." Although, we agreed, not quite as dispiriting as Royal Mail CEO Adam Crozier's million pound-plus pay package. My aunt's village, Farningham in Kent, is one of many earmarked for post office closure, devastating the tight-knit community. Hundreds of people turned out to a meeting about the closure, but the Royal Mail didn't send a single representative. How much longer are we going to tolerate fourth-rate businessmen trousering vast bonuses for one big idea: cutting services to the meekly paying customer?
It's an outrage.
