I am not overly worried about catching the virus as i am in good health. However I am worried about taking it back home and "underlying issues" is a very broad phrase.

25 people under 40 have died in the UK, 2481 people that are over 60 have died. So with those figures you're roughly 100 times more likely to die if you're over 60, than under 40. A crude stat, but you get the idea.

By those stats people over 60 have a lot more to worry about than those under 40. Many people over 60 are not taking this seriously, aren't adhering to social distancing.

Many people over 60 are still coming into work at Royal Mail. I criticized the initial government advice for over 70s to isolate, high risk starts much younger than that, if you're 50+ I would seriously consider whether you actually need to be at work.

The most worrying thing, is how many doctors and nurses are dying, it seems that the dosage you get exposed to also plays a part. So people need to be strictly adhering to social distancing, and basic hygiene rules. The US is also about to issue advice to wear masks. It's bizarre that it's taken so long, it's an airborne disease, N95+ masks will undoubtedly help mitigate the risks, Mail centres and Delivery offices should implement those.

Indeed, I made the suggestion in another thread that the advice regarding masks i.e. that the general population shouldn't be wearing them, was more about that issue. Than the fact they "weren't effective".

That said, if the advice were to change here in the UK. I think many people would find they already had suitable masks in their garage, shed, house etc. There seems to be a cultural reluctance to use them in the UK, unlike places like Asia, where they are commonplace.

Well about two weeks ago saw one guy with full mask and goggles it really got me that did but we are not on the front line even if some think we are.

According to the BBC as well as the plastic screen the buses are deep cleaned and the seats nearest the driver are taped off.

I doubt our vans have ever been cleaned let alone a deep clean.

As usual though we don’t help ourselves. I used a van yesterday - the back tyres PSI were 12 and 14 (I did think it looked low when the driver who’s van it is passed me in the street on Friday, I doubt he’s ever done a vehicle check ever). In the passenger footwell there were 5 mail sacks, 3 empty 2 litre bottles of coke, about 10 chocolate bar wrappers. Underneath it all the carpet had been scrunched up, I’ve no idea how. Down the side next to the drivers seat there was a half eaten sausage roll.

I hope once we come out of this pandemic individually and as a business we take cleanliness and hygiene seriously. No one is expecting a 5 star valet, but it’s not difficult to remove your rubbish at the end of your rounds and brush off any crumbs you’ve made. A manager remaining in the office till everyone gets back (I know, don’t make me laugh!) and checking each van with a stage warning for any being brought back filthy should do the trick.
