Underlying Condition

Post by joandsteve144 »

I am 62 and have an underlying condition as had a heart attack and stents fitted, have to have flu jab and take medication.
Doctor has said need to isolate for 12 weeks. HR say need a letter but surgery not issuing these and that my employer Royal Mail should follow the guidelines and I need to “shield
I am due in work on Sunday night but advised against it even though key worker. I am increasingly stressing over the situation as I believe Royal Mail would follow government guide lines.
Where do I stand please?

The 12 week isolation is definitely for the extremely vulnerable group ie cancer sufferers etc but your doctor may feel that you need to be off for that period but as you are outside that group she/ he should have afforded you a certificate, you might want to try nhs 111 online service for an isolation note. Hope this helps, stay safe matey.

you and a lot of other people who have underlining health conditions are in the same boat rm will not do anything about the issue they give you 3 options ..1 take holidays...2...flexible working....3...no pay ... unless you have the nhs letter which is full pay for the 12 weeks i really dont know what else to say to you as im finding this issue hard to understand where rm are coming from things might change also in all the recent cwu updates this issue has not been brought up , ive said before its the governments wording on this they say "strongly advise " which is not being told and rm are taking this wording as gospel and believe me ive been trying to get a concrete answer on this for weeks and im just hitting brick walls i have one guy in my office not as old as you but same condition as you and there is nothing i can do im not giving up as vulnerable groups are an issue that rm and the union need to look at very soon ... stay safe

This is a growing problem. There are two groups of people who have been advised to stay off for 12 weeks by Govt / PHE

Group 1 - extremely vulnerable. 1.5m with NHS letters, and they are covered.

Group 2 - a much wider list of vulnerable people (broadly the flu jab group) but who won't have NHS letters.

Most GPs aren't doing CV19 sick notes. So what does group 2 do? The advice is probably "speak to your manager", but we all know how that ends!

120,000 people in Scotland considered 'high-risk'
The first minister gives an update on the number of people considered to be at the highest risk of contracting coronavirus in Scotland, and therefore in need of "shielding".

She says a rough estimate had previously put the figure at 200,000, but she can now say with more confidence that the figure is approximately 120,000.

Ms Sturgeon reports that the Chief Medical Officer for Scotland, Dr Catherine Calderwood, has now sent 110,000 letters to people in these groups, and the rest will arrive shortly.

She adds that more than 8,000 people in the high-risk category have already signed up to a text message service which offers support with access to home deliveries, which started this morning.

The first minister urges everyone who receives a letter to register for the service, even if they don't currently require help.
