Excuse me I take issue at that sweeping statement - I voted NO and if you look at my posts over the last 2 days you will see that I have accepted we have lost and now want to move on and make the most of the accepted deal.

Please do not make such sweeping statements as by doing that you are falling in to the same trap you accuse us of jumping in to.

Also just like I have asked the NO voters to stop name calling and enter into an honest debate can I also ask that people on the other side do the same. The deal has been accepted, some are happy, some are unhappy, a lot obviously are not concerned one way or the other, but whatever camp you are in we all have to work together. Everyone be adult about this and stop slagging others opinions off.

What a wonderfull idea members leave the CWU just because the vote result dosent match up with the way they wanted to go!

Whats the point of being in CWU in the first place if you cant accept the democratic will of the majority of those that voted?

it may have been a democratic vote but the reason i am thinking about leaving the union is that whenever we have a vote i will have no faith in the people who are in the union there seems to be a lot of company people in this union in fact 51000 of them so they will win the votes all the time majority rule so idont believe in the people running this union and i now dont trust anyone in it either so i think i am better putting my £3 in a small savings scheme for me feck the rest of them hope they all live to regret this

Now get this thread back on track... I feel Coming out of the union is a issue to be brought up in every office.... There is a movement from HQ to give individual offices there free will to negotiate locally.. So get a tight run ship and sail it yourselves... Each office have a commitee and spokes people...

Keep our own monies for our units.... £3 a week per office could be used well. And it could be a tidy sum...

I really think after two days of being down in the dumps over the vote and the bullshite from billy n dave, that we take more control over our jobs n future... HQ are putting it on our plate to negotiate our deals so lets take the bull by the horns and take this up to another level and use the back sliding no backbone sell out HQ to task and use there lack of fight to our advantage.....

Tommo, these creeps have been telling us industrial action is a thing of the past since the London Dock Strike over 100 years ago. We'll see. Once the arrogance of the DUM's and screws is seen in all its glory, the unofficial action kicks in, and Billy the Pig and Wavering Davy will have their work cut out.

I have been thinking seriously about leaving the Union today and I have deided to come up with Reasons to leave and Reasons to Stay - Anyone can join in.

Reasons to Leave

get an Extra £3 a week through not paying subs.
It will show my dissatisfaction with the leadership


Reasons to Stay

Union will be there when I as an individual need them.
If I leave I can't partake in a vote of no confidence against the leadership if one happens.
If I leave I wont be able to vote in a replacement for Dave Ward and Sir Billy.
I wont be able to have a voice in future decisions regarding both Royal Mail and CWU
If I leave will I be helping AL and AC in what is perceived as the tactic to "Divide and Conquer"


Has anyone else got anything to add to either list.

yes, your reasons for staying in; you are entitled to be treated by your employer, in exactly the same way regardless of whether you are a member of a union or not. there are employment laws that protect you regardless of whether you are a member of a union. fear of being an " individual" is no reason to hide behind union membership, hayes/ward have done the dividing. having a say in electing the next incompetant cwu leader is no recomendation for staying in the union. personally i would like to see my postcode going it alone and forming our own union, if locally some areas fail to implement the changes required to "earn " the 1.5% next year, then we will be on different pay scales anyway, so will become "detatched " from the rest of the country. as usual i welcome comments that disagree with me, we "no" voters were way off the mark in thinking we were going to get a no, because , people with differing views were put off from posting their own points.

Sorry if you were lulled into thinking it would be a no vote, to be honest given the circumstances that was always a near impossibility.
This was always a numbers game and ultimately the numbers HQ and RM relied upon were those employees who are conservative[small c]: tempted by the carrot that was already theirs and with a deepseated trust and longstanding faith in a union authority that has traditionally protected their interests.
If you blame the yes voters then your anger is misplaced and the real culprits who bear true responsibility get off lightly.
Would'nt count on employment law though cos it used to be illegal to shoot an unarmed commuter in the head seven times but it's okay now,think it's called operational necessity

The union isn't always about the big picture. Sure we've been sold out by HQ. Once the leadership are in cahoots with RM we have no chance. Come election time we can get shot of Billy n Dave and maybe get a chance of voting in someone more worthy.

Our union is 24hrs, 7 days a week. It's not only there to f**k you up big time on national issues, it's there to represent the guy who's being pressurised into working over, or trying to be kicked out because of ill health or being harassed by the boss because he's doing the job properly etc. If the boss knows a postie's got the backing of the rest of the boys and girls who are willing to walk out for him he'll probably back down.

Leaving the union will only make your office weaker. The weaker you are the more s**t you're going to get thrown at you.

CWU nationally have washed their hands of this agreement and palmed it all off to the unit reps. Now is the time to stand solid and not give in which only plays into RM hands.
