Reserves not allowed in depot

Post by Mysteriousfemale »

Hi everyone

My partner arrived at the depot today to be told “reserves are not allowed in the depot” and must meet their partner at the first point for the walk. He was told to use his own vehicle to follow the van.

This seems strange as yesterday he was a victim of a racist verbal attack by one of the seniors.

Is this the case in other depots? And does anyone have any advice on this?

I don’t see why he should be expected to use his own vehicle.

Thanks

Pretty sure the Royal Mail does not have the capacity to requisition private vehicles for their own use. They can ask but I'm pretty sure they cannot insist.

Also seems like they are simply brushing over the racist element in this. What does your rep say.

This is extremely serious and he should consider taking it further.

The rep wouldn’t help. Don’t feel I can go into too much detail on here. It’s not the first time he’s been racially attacked there. He was born here but because his skin isn’t as white as theirs he’s been called all sorts.

He don’t really know who to contact to get any advice in this... it seems everyone at his depot sticks together.

Sorry to hear how your partner is being treated.

At my depot, van sharing is no longer the norm and none drivers have to go from the depot to their round by way way of bike/car.

Here is the link to the message concerning the use of own vehicles rounds: https://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communi ... 71&t=95033" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Hope it helps and matters improve for your partner.

It’s the racist part that dosent sit with me. Bullying and Harassment is the scourge of this business and if I was him I would phone up and go on sick for 6 month with stress. Obviously this isn’t the first incident so it needs taking further.

Not in our depot, it's not. In fact, some of our reserves are needed to cover for those taking time off during this crisis.

If someone has been the alleged victim of Racist Abuse then the matter needs to be reported to the Police. This can be done online or by ringing 101.

What is racist or religious hate crime?

Hate crimes and incidents are any crime or incident which is targeted at a victim because of the offender's hostility or prejudice against an identifiable group of people.

So any incident or crime which is perceived to be motivated because of a person's race, ethnicity or religion - either their actual ethnicity/religion or ethnicity/religion as perceived by the offender - will be recorded as such.  Hate crimes can be committed against a person or property.

A racist or religious hate crime is:

“Any criminal offence which is perceived, by the victim or any other person, to be motivated by a hostility or prejudice based on a person’s race or perceived race”
or
“Any criminal offence which is perceived, by the victim or any other person, to be motivated by a hostility or prejudice based on a person’s religion or perceived religion”

Bullying or Harassment of any kind should not be tolerated by anyone at anytime

Not required to use your own car.....

As far as the rascist part is concerned I'd be reporting it to the police immediately as well as starting a formal complaint.

Unfortunately far to many rascist scumbags have become emboldened with Brexit etc and seem to think that their opinions are both warranted and valid.

They are not.....under any circumstances.
