Face Masks - Virustatic Shield

Post by LouBarlow »

I'm one of those people who frankly doesn't believe the government advice on whether face masks should be worn during this pandemic, considering the primary method is via droplets in coughs and sneezes and close contact. They say that wearing of them is not a necessity but given the shortage of PPE for frontline workers, I'm presuming they are saying that, to prevent the public hoarding.

Either way, I've decided to wear one, especially in the office where close contact is unavoidable, and was reading about the virustatic shield over the weekend, and they look pretty well suited to our job, and probably less conspicuous than surgical masks.

They have a queue of people ordering, but if you mention you are a frontline worker, they try and help you out. Mine was posted the same day, so excellent customer service, and always good to support a British based firm with a genuinely unique product.

I'll let you know how I get on with mine when it arrives.

Royal Mail should be giving us all one of these for free, considering the risks we are taking just doing our jobs

You are right, but it is clear that the company doesn't really care about our health, and the union isn't doing enough to press them on it, so I'm having to look out for myself and my family.

Does not seem too cost effective, it says its coating only works for up to 3 washes.

I've spent my day off trying to get hold of hand sanitiser and alcohol spray. I managed to track some down direct from a factory, that will last me a month(hopefully) but I shouldn't be spending my own money and travelling to supply my own PPE. RM need to get their act together, if I can source stuff so can they.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

I never listen to this governments medical advice about the pandemic. They are proven liars that literally ignored the threat when it first occurred in China, and then had an insane strategy to infect the whole country with a deadly virus to create herd immunity before they realised how many people that would end up killing.

If you want advice on what to do, go to the WHO website and follow their advice. It comes from experts that have no care about politics or ideologies. They say face masks are only needed for people in hospitals/care settings and don't go within 1 meter (3ft) of anyone who has a cough or sneezing. Wash your hands often, and don't touch your face.

The advice I have seen is beyond stopping/discouraging wearers touching their faces, masks are not required unless:

1. You are infected with Covid19 (or are suspected to be) - this is to stop the spread to others.
2. You are living with someone who has been confirmed as a Covid19 case, and they cannot wear a mask.
3. You are medical staff working in direct contact with Covid19 patients.

Regular washing for 20 secs of the hands and face offers better protection than any face mask. Unless it's fitted to the wearer there are always avenues of infection around the mask, and viruses can enter the body through your eyes.

Let's be honest. If the chief medical officer giving this advice catches the virus himself, what chance have the rest of us got of preventing it happening.
