Coronavirus and pay while in isolation

Post by varkey »

My wife is an NHS nurse she is in isolation with symptoms of covid 19. I got a message from my office saying “Royal mail are now not paying sick pay if you self isolate for 14 days when someone shows symptoms in the household “

AFAIK you are covered by sick pay if you follow the current self-isolation policy. The self-isolation certificate through NHS 111 IIRC automatically counts as a Covid19 absence.

Where they are not paying is if you take time off to look after a dependant who is not showing symptoms, or not been told to self-isolate. You and she have so as I say I think you are okay. Ring the manager and HR to be certain though.

General rule of thumb is that if the medical advice has been sought and this advice states that you must self-isolate, then this is likely to constitute a sick absence and you should provide your manager with the evidence of this advice.

It's up in the air at the moment. None of it makes sense.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
