I appreciate people need paying, but being able to work safely should be the number one priority, considering people will be getting paid for two weeks minimum at this point. We could all go in tomorrow and be infected, because the CWU isn't doing enough to ensure safety procedures are being implemented correctly.
lets talk home truth "getting paid for two weeks minimum at this point" i would think a lot are just off with f**k all wrong with them just to get 2 weeks off work .... and this might just backfire on them if they do in the future develop symptoms or get this virus for real what are they going to do then as they are saying you cant get it twice as you get anti bodies come to work pass it on while people who in vulnerable groups are living on a knife edge with no back up and being told they wont get paid for protecting there health the whole thing stinks and this is where i find the whole thing getting very dangerous and a health risk to all as all theses people are about to return to work this week and they have all been self isolating some will be have been doing it for the reason it was intended for others who have just been off for the sake of it they could just of caused a huge problem for us all ........... i hope people are getting my point
I get your point. But it’s not quite as simple as you can go off only once. I’ll try to explain.

Let’s say you live with your wife (or partner, or housemate or whatever). She shows symptoms, you have to isolate for 2 weeks - that’s direct government advice. After a week she’s fine, after 2 weeks you go back to work. You isolated for 2 weeks but didn’t show any symptoms.

Back at work, numbnuts on the frame next to you walks past and sneezes your way (or a customer infects you). As soon as you start to show symptoms, you’re off for another week.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

so if you have been off for 2 weeks common cold might be covid 19 symptoms go back to work next week you get a cough also covid 19 symptoms what will rm do send you home again with pay or not... you have already used your online note ..... do you see what im getting at .... can you get this note again and if so that means you could go off for the foreseeable future ..... back to topic while vulnerable groups are being told they wont get paid to me there is something very wrong here which to me does need looking at by the union and royal mail

How do we know we have it? No testing ? If symptoms are lasting over 7 days but feel pressured into coming back on 7 days ,then spreading it at work . ?

No.
We have a simple instruction to follow.
If you or anyone in your household has Coronavirus symptoms you have to self isolate.

Why do people especially in the UK have a problem with simple instructions and a fascination with what other people do?

I don't care if the guy next to me has 6 different attempts at self isolating as long as the one time he does have coronavirus he's not standing next to me.

Nobody is being a hero for coming to work with symptoms, they're being off the scale dumb as a box of rocks.

If you get symptoms of the virus and so self isolate, but it turns out it was just a cold, that doesnt mean you cant self isolate again if you develop symptoms further down the line. And even then it might turn out to not be the virus.

Royal Mail cant really say anything can they, if you are following government advice to isolate when showing symptoms? Covid 19 shares symptoms with other illnesses so sometimes there will be cases of people isolating due to symptoms but it might just be a cold etc

Not sure ive worded that in the best way but its annoying me a bit some of the messages on here suggesting that you cant possible self isolate twice or that RM could discipline you for doing so. They will obviously look into it but if you genuinely had symptoms on two separate occasions, what can they do?

sorry if i did Throw the cat among the pigeons with my reply but i was just trying to make a point that people can go off when they like with symptoms while people in vulnerable groups are being told yes they can go off without pay even if its theses groups are the ones rm and union should be protecting a lot of you wont know whats its like to have a hypo or asthma attack if theses groups get symptoms or the virus they are going to get it a lot worse than most of you yet rm wont let this group go off for health reasons unless its without pay even if the government strongly advise them to do so these groups should not be working and with rm having a duty of care something needs to be done not just pushed under the carpet or a blind eye turned why should people get paid for 2 weeks while these people are still working not being able to go off and not be paid because they have health conditions :arrrghhh i have one more point that has come to light yourself and your partner are both keyworkers you have a chlid which is classed as vulnerable you cant get child care/places at school because your child needs special care one of you needs to stay home yet again royal mail say yes you can go off without pay am i really banging my head against a brick wall here theses things need to change and change now tomorrow is not good enough

While I don’t agree with it because I wasn’t brought up to cheat and lie, maybe the solution is to just follow what those playing the system are doing and say you have symptoms and keep repeating. Keep playing the game, I have a feeling within 2-3 weeks most will be sent home and we’ll just have a skeleton service running.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

As for the union, I’m afraid strongly worded letters, delayed meetings and Facebook updates just aren’t cutting it.

How difficult is to ask every rep as a matter of urgency to confirm if measures are being adhered to at their sorting office? Then compile a list of the hundreds of offices failing to adhere, go to the papers, get it all over the internet and we all walk out.

Top tip: read through my posts. I’m highly critical of the situation we are in and don’t think we should be posting without correct PPE for everyone.

The gentleman above is asking what can be done for those with underlying health conditions, or children who can’t get childcare/schooling. His option is to take special leave unpaid, or have a cough and be at home getting paid. Right now honesty isn’t being rewarded, it’s being punished.

Or the 3rd option is to carry on as you are, which would be ridiculous.

You should probably stay off even if the symptoms are mild or you're not certain.

Don't worry about having to do it again if the first time was a false alarm. Better safe than sorry.

On the 10th I had sickness and diarrhoea and a fever. S/d went by weekend fever Thursday after. Since then I've had short ness of breath and yesterday and today have been really bad. Just been signed off for another 2 weeks. I can't even climb the stairs with feeling like I've ran a marathon. Doctor said self isolate again for another 2 weeks. Not got a clue when I will be back in work :hmmmm.

How can people not know the difference between a cold and covid 19 ? You don't sneeze or get a runny nose with covid 19.

According to the WHO, the most common symptoms of Covid-19 are fever, tiredness and a dry cough. Some patients may also have a runny nose, sore throat, nasal congestion and aches and pains or diarrhoea. Some people report losing their sense of taste and/or smell. About 80% of people who get Covid-19 experience a mild case – about as serious as a regular cold – and recover without needing any special treatment.
