I read on the 26/3/2020 that the CWU are pressing RM to prioritise services as sick and self isolation increases. RM have been told that it is wrong that door to door items and absorption must stop. However, this week, managers have insisted that I deliver Farm Foods and Funeral planner D2D's, next week I have DFS! Managers have also insisted that we continue to take out absorption and when challenged over this we just get a shrug of the shoulders and told to just do it!
The Governments message of stay at home, be safe and so on should hit home to RM managers but to them it's business as normal. In fairness our OPS manager is torn between following instructions from above and trying to be fair to her employees, however, surely the CWU should advise all members to cease D2D delivery and absorption during CWU's discussions. Furthermore I believe the CWU should also encourage solidarity in these testing times by proposing white collar workers to prise themselves away from their excel spreadsheets and help cover the vacant walks.

Absorption and white collar workers
See what next week brings. I suspect that, as the virus actually begins to take hold (so far relatively few people who are off will actually have it), we'll see staffing fall to 50% or below at times. Even if the mail continues to drop off (as it has this week) and packets remain steady, that will require something to give or for the service to actually break down rather than creak as it is now. And hopefully it'll be D2Ds that go.
Some people in our office have refused to take door to doors if doing so would mean leaving letters. In fairness, our managers have been okay with that.

White collars on the streets, well they do it when we're on strike so why not.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

In my area, D2D have been suspended until further notice unless they are related to Corona Virus.
