Oh don't worry, I'm under no illusions, I know full well the only reason they've classed us as "key workers" is so that at a stroke they can exclude 160,000 of us from being furloughed and getting 80% of our wages for sitting at home.twoloops wrote:Don’t kid yourself, key worker my arse

I think we are classed as key workers due to our ability to deliver parcels and mail. I dont want to be delivering the s**t we do but I understand that if we dont it could have quite a detrimental affect to our economy. If all the delivery companies ceased operating everything would properly grind to a halt. It's the only way people can still spend and receive during lockdown. Also, if we stop delivering all the catalogues and advertising BS, businesses will invest in other methods to catalyse their turnover and we could potentially loose their business. More job losses.
Although we all hate delivering it especially during this shithole crisis, its gonna help our economy recover and help keep our lives as financially normal as possible during and after this crisis.

I popped to Tesco's earlier and was told there was a 30 min queue, I told them I was a key worker and after seeing my RM ID they let me straight inAcca Dacca wrote:Doleys?wacko74 wrote:All the supermarkets in my area now operating a one in one out policy... If I'm such a highly valued and important ''key worker'' how come I've now got to stand in a queue for 30 minutes behind pensioners, doleys and people on furlough who all currently have all the time in the world to do their shopping after Iv'e just done an 8 hour shift?

It’s certainly not black and white. I’ve read articles that have argued that the measures taken now to protect life in the short term could have such a detrimental affect on the economy that in the long term it could lead to a higher numbers of deaths from other causes after the pandemic. Of course if you have genuine concerns about the safety of your work place and you have vulnerable people at home you’re only going to care about trying to get everyone you care about through the next 6 months still healthy and alive.

I couldn't agree more. My situation at home with just my better half and our son is better than most. My partner is able to continue working from home and look after the littln, RM is still going, we've taken advantage of the mortgage holiday and saving our payments just in case, other than our parents who are SI, we dont have anyone classed as vulnerable. To this extent I suppose in a way I'm just trying to validate the bollox that is working for RM during this crisis as something that is actually worth while. Providing I can work in a way that I feel comfortable and safeguard myself by taking the precautions I personally feel necessary, I'm more than happy to continue working. If tomorrow I cant, I'll soon let my DOM know the score.Zicomurphy wrote:sirchewey wrote:I think we are classed as key workers due to our ability to deliver parcels and mail. Sorry I am in Scotland so its not a term im familiar with - only ever heard 'dole' used in the benefits claim context so pretty reasonable to assume 'doleys' was a derogatory term for a benefit claimant or unemployed personaiden01 wrote:Pensioners ffs wise upAcca Dacca wrote:Doleys?wacko74 wrote:All the supermarkets in my area now operating a one in one out policy...
