Coronavirus concerns for new starters

Post by anjelise »

Anyone due to start a new job as a postie but now having second thoughts due to Coronavirus?

Or can any current posties advise what they would do in that situation?

Do current posties think it’s even possible now to take on a new starter and train them up with the distancing and one person to a van type policies that have been brought in?

New starter at my office first day training on collection today. They are making him drive behind the trainer in a 2nd van due to social distancing. Following eachother in 2 separate Van's. So ridiculous its unreal!

I would do everything to avoid it until this thing is over. Our working environment is massively unsafe. And you don't get proper training at the best of times, no chance now.

Ring and tell them whatever you need to pursuade them to defer your start date. That you have concerns, that you live with someone vulnerable, whatever.

If they won't defer it, think seriously about how much you need the job.

What is the answer to the example. If Mr Postman wakes up with a dry cough or feeling feverish is it vital that he phones the office and stays off work even if the cough isnt that bad? Are managers argumentative on the phone or is it a simple "ok stay at home" and will the postman get a full wage even if its just a dry cough or feeling poo?
Basically at what point do we phone in, is it at the slightest persistant cough?

If you develop ANY symptoms, even if mild, you need to stay at home for 7 days, immediately.

If someone else in your household develops symptoms, YOU stay off for 2 weeks (get an isolation note from NHS 111 to certify you for this period)

Thanks everyone for your responses. Just wondering if you did get started today then, moss89, and how did you get on if so?
