How many posties not come in to work recently ?
I'm yet to see a solid answer regarding pay.
Myself and my wife are both key workers but I've chosen to work just my basic 20hrs to watch kids during the morning.
I'm not showing symptoms and nor is my wife but I'm still wondering if we should be at work at all.
For me I've more than halved my hours at work and I'm down to 20 to do collections but now I'm wondering if I should go off completely.
Some others are self isolating or off sick at my depot. Very little ppe provided, I'll fitting gloves, no spray etc.
Very glad to still have a job at all compared to some of my friends and family but I'm very scared of bringing home this virus to my three kids for the sake of 20hrs wage.
I've seen nothing to say it's fine to go self isolate and still receive 20hrs pay. All I hear from people at work is that it is unpaid leave or use holidays.
We both work very public jobs and it def has me spooked after seeing the ages drop on the news.
The only thing keeping me at work atm is holding onto 20hrs pay rather than bring home nothing and the thought that we're still providing essential support to the nation.

And that young boy who nearly died . This ain't just a virus that targets older vulnerable people any more. It's mutating.FacesOfStone wrote:21 year old with no underlying conditions has died. How essential is our work again?

It's worth mentioning and pointing out, I feel, just for perspective......we shouldn't come within 5m of any public. That's not hard to do. The problem area is sorting in the morning. Even if you can't get hand sanitizer to take out with you, fill a bottle with strong washing up liquid and water I know it's not hot but better than nothing.
Anyway, I digress... back to the perspective thing,
My wife is a HCA (Heath care assistant) in hospital. She asked for a mask the other day only to be told you can't have one unless attending to a cv19 case. Her answer was, how do we know when some are infected but asymptomatic? She put one on anyway and got into some bother for it with three different levels of seniority. This caused massive stress. She was called selfish. Really? For trying to protect herself, her colleagues and the patients. Again, REALLY?
This is the great British NHS. She earns less than me. They are changing the guidelines on PPE to suit what stock they have. It's appalling.
Next time we think we're hard done to, think again.

Some categories of people are and have always been more vulnerable. That never meant everyone not in those categories would get away with a bit of a cough and some sweating.

his/her bonus is gone for this year, he/she should calm down and have a heart.scotchy1962 wrote:Just been contacted by my Dom and anybody off on self isolation must either come back to work or only get paid SSP from now on, apparently to many people now off. Personally I think that apart from the Health service we are having more indirect contact with the public than anybody else with more or less no protection and until some poor postie catches it and either dies or kills their vulnerable partner/sibling/parent nothing will be done.
