Royal Mail brief to managers : New ways of working in delivery, processing and distribution

Needless to say,lots of people carried on van sharing.
F*** that, I’m working to time ,on my own!

Royal Mail have gone public with their policy of one per van, it's all over the news and not optional. The public are mostly sitting in the house bored as a fart looking for something to do.

It's only a matter of time before pictures of two posties in a van end up on social media and when they do people will be sacked because the business will disavow anyone who does this.

So not only are they putting lives at risk, they're putting their jobs at risk, managers and posties heading down to the dole hand in hand. Smart... really smart.

Can we refuse to work in the afternoon? Think it's the only realistic option but I don't want to work 11 till whenever in the evening delivering mail

I guess it’s a sign of the progress we have made over the years that so many of these ideas that are so unacceptable now were all quiet normal when I started 30 years ago. Use of private cars, taking a bus to the start of your delivery, having pouches left in shops or even houses on your walk, no one used to bat an eyelid at any of it.

It's all well and good coming up with new ways of working but no one seems to have given any thought to the fact that all these delivery companies out there delivering none essential items for man and beast is potentially spreading the virus faster with all the surfaces, items and customers they are coming into contact with. each day.

Utter madness all in the name of revenue and looking like you're part of some key emergency service.

How else will Mike Ashley make some money now his stores have been forced to shut?

I think business like his, and any other company that have been lax and flaunting the governments advice, need to be taken to court after all this has settled down. Thinking more about their own bank balance than the people on the front-line getting exposed to this virus and their none existent choice of having to work because they are on disgraceful contracts of employment and are desperate to keep some form of cash flow going into the house.

We all know it'll be the postie that's at risk of losing their job, the manager will be quietly moved somewhere else.

Union have been clear on this, social distancing has to be done on all indoor work and no cars on delivery whatsoever. If your office isn't following those guidelines then get them reported. Managers are not above the government.

So my brilliant idea of Royal Mail using drones to deliver letters and D2Ds to households was laughed at a while ago. Same goes for my clever idea of Royal Mail posties walking on stilts so they could step over gates without touching them. Laughed at. And what of my genius idea of using archery to fire letters and D2Ds through letter boxes? Sniggered at by Royal Mail management. Typical.

Look who's laughing now.

I suggested training an army of moles to dig there away into peoples gardens........alas, too many patios kiboshed that one....and also of course anyone living in a block of flats, a lesser known fact, moles cannot operate lifts as they can't reach the buttons .......back to the drawing board.....although your stilts idea has defintely got 'legs'......

Not sure Royal Mail have come up with this idea of working, was just bought up by Posties on this forum as an idea. I'd rather not work the afternoon and I think it would be the same for most posties. We have our working hours anyway so I don't think RM can make us work outside them.

Can bags of mail just be taken to the post office and collected by the postie that lives nearest? At end of shift van collects the bags/PDA and undelivered mail?

If there was an army of moles however, could they not climb one on top of the other until they can reach the buttons?

Are the union actually chasing this? Because in our office yesterday are dom said we are just carrying on with shared vans ,then today he says its discretionary! Surely the statement read that only 1 person in a van at all times? Today we had a few guys walking instead of sharing but most still 2 per van, when i challenged them they said mind your own business but i said it is my business because you could be spreading the virus, but they just said they are not going to walk 2 miles there and back.so there is your problem, its getting ridiculous why isnt this being enforced? and in the office there is no social distancing at all its absolutely terrible and so selfish of people . The union need to force managers into this or we need to take this further. I fear many offices being full of this in 2\3 weeks time and it will be too late then, the managers who artent doing this should be prosecuted for lack of care towards staff

This has shone a huge spotlight into how much extra workload and responsibility is placed on the drivers of this company

Do you know what the driver does extra in our pair, he drives.
Stop being silly, if your office has one member of the pair doing more than the other you're not doing it right.
