Want to self isolate but no symptoms

What are my options if i want to stop working for a few weeks and self isolate at home, but i dont have any symptoms and nor does anyone i live with?

I know this had sort of been answered on here, but is there anyone who is currently doing this or wants to?

Is it just a case of taking unpaid leave? Or are management flexible about using annual leave?

I want to speak to my DOM about this today or ASAP but im a bit worried that he will say my only option is unpaid leave.

So you just don't fancy working? If your that worried just ask to go off unpaid, why would he offer anything else when theres nothing wrong with you or members of your family? If we all did this it would be great wouldn't it? I don't really enjoy work at the best of times never mind at the moment but don't think I should be able to decide to stay off because I fancy it and either be paid or take annual leave

I agree everyone is rightly concerned about this virus,but imagine if everyone had your attitude as just gave up work because they're worried,there'd be no nurses,no doctors,binmen or anything it's the nature of the job,work as safe as you can don't work over your hours and stay safe.

Which is why ive been going into work and might continue to do so, but am constantly agonising over what is the right thing to do, for me and my family.

Bin men are far better protected than us, and I doubt they have to spend a few hours indoors in close proximity sorting things.

While it doesn’t make it right, doctors and nurses know when they signed up to the job there’s some risk involved, dealing every day with people with illnesses etc. Same goes for police, firemen, army and so on.

I’ve never had a single sick day off. Not a single hour. I’m not workshy but I never signed up to play the role of an invincible postman pat.

Neither have I but someones got to do it,just go home then and leave it to other people to do

Feeling somewhat the same, today I witnessed older people out and about scoffing about the virus and blaming young ones, people standing about in groups, several spitting up the street and along walls.


One man standing at one of my collection boxes blew a lungful of cigarette smoke all over me and there was even a woman who couldn't get the lid off her lucozade sport and came up to me to ask for help.

I keep finding used tissues thrown into my postboxes and we have only been issued with gloves a size too small.

Several of our walks haven't gone out, several are off sick or self isolating. I've cut my hours down to basic 20hr contract to watch the kids during the morning.

And I also received an email inviting me for an interview for a new job but it has been cancelled/postponed due to covid19.

My wife is a nurse, she just told me one of the patients she was caring in a non corona virus ward for just tested positive for the virus. She has had no mask or protective equipment and The NHS want her to continue working until she shows symptoms and won't test her unless she shows symptoms. Anyway, she has no symptoms at present, should I self isolate or go into work even though I might have the virus? I just don't know if she has it or I have it, but we know the patient she was looking after has it, plus the NHS want her to go to work until if/when she shows symptoms so should I go to the delivery office until I show symptoms? I'm guessing not, but she will have to go to work with other patients who do not have the virus. This government are willingly putting our NHS staff at risk and the patients they are looking after at risk.

Nothing to do with whether your office is short or not, if you are entitled to self isolate you do it, he can't stop you.
