Members of the public worried about contaminated post

Been on Facebook and which magazine forum ,and there all now questioning the chances of catching the virus via parcels and letters, with some even disinfecting there mail.
With a lot asking why we are still doing delivery's with the potential to spread this virus to every household in the uk.

Or more worrying is members of staff catching virus off mail and parcels. Why Amazon and the likes are still allowed to trade and profit at the expense of all their high street competition being forced to closed,is beyond me. Amazon hubs are full of people in close proximity to one and another.

Open the mail, read the mail, dispose of the mail, wash hands.
If you have to keep the mail put it somewhere safe for a few days to be on the safe side.

This should really be briefed out and put on the news ect.

Obviously, for the postie it's much harder.

Well i for one aint comfortable with the idea of the virus doesn't last long on letters or parcels , after all what exactly is not for long , very vague in the extreme and these guys who come out with these statements have not got to handle the stuff. Lets see how comfortable they would be if they were asked to handle the mail for weeks on end with limited PPE i bet they wouldn't fancy it one litter bit.

If the virus lived a long time on packets we would all have it if it spread by sitting next to someone we would all have it, if we do not touch if we are not face to face wash our hands regularly then the chances of catching it are remote. Id rather be at work then in a supermarket queue or a tube train are the panic buyers worried about the tins and other packets of food they have brought.

Yes, we may all have it by now, many show no symptoms but can be a carrier, and also people who do get ill it can take 6+ days to show symptoms.

Hard surfaces, which would include plastic packages can keep the virus alive for up to 72 hours. I have heard this on 2 separate occasions on the BBC.

So going by your reasoning its ok not to have social distancing as long as we dont face each other, and your very happy to handle letters and parcels where someone who may have the virus has sneezed or touched it as we dont know for sure who of our colleagues may be carrying the virus, because NO ONE YET as far as you think you know has caught it from handling the mail wow. And how by the way do i clean my hands regularly while out on a rural delivery with no where to wash my hands. Its thinking like yours that will see the spread of this virus multiply just like in italy.
