They are most likely issued with a proper protective gear that actually works. Still a decent point although I wouldnt compare us to them.claretandblue wrote:So we are expected to have 1 man 1 van but Ambulances still have 2 people in them ?

By the end of this week there won't be enough staff to fill the vans we've got.

i for one do not want to end up on ventilator, gasping for breath and dying alone in an isolation unit.
be strong.
What ventilator? Come to that, what bed? The situation gets worse as it goes on and there will be no resources for us.

A bit like one per van. How the hell is this going to be stuck to when there's van shares 8 miles from the office and barley enough vans to go round as it is. It's totally impossible and if enforced the place will close. Should have stuck to bikes.ripio wrote:Regular hand washing throughout the day, impossible, so the whole thing is a non starter.

Our office car park is full. Where (even if you could get them) are they gonna park another 30-40 vans.Jahpostie wrote:Surely they just hire extra vans. Simples. Oh I forgot it's Royal Mail. (I know some don't drive but seems to me the best solution)

I can't wait to see how they (mis)manage this in the morning. Speaking as a driver who regularly shares with a non-driver.

Lets get some clarity here....
Postmen/Women:
-If you are old and vulnerable - stay at home, you are fine to do so.
-If you have vulnerable people you live with - stay at home.
-If you are healthy and the people you live with are healthy then you should still work. Guess what - you will likely still need to go to a rammed supermarket at some point or will go out your house to do exercise and interact with people.
-If you want hand sanitiser/hand wash/soap or gloves - go and buy some, don't expect Royal Mail to provide you.
Managers:
-Make sure people are kept at 2 or 3 metres distance and tell Posties to keep that distance.
-Arrange to drop post out to posties. Rent out extra vans. Ask those that are on annual leave if they could come into work to help. Employ agency staff.
It's not that difficult. Though likely every depot will have a backlog as Posties stay at home and the logistics of 1 man vans isn't going to be efficient.
Most of these posties complaining 'Muh life!!!!!' won't have bought any hand wash or gloves over the past weeks and will go into work today and stand right next to people without a care in the world. I guarantee it.

How do you regularly wash your hands whilst out on duty if you're a hct user or out by yourself using a lwt while bags are being dropped off to you or you're a non driver etc??

Wherever possible is not good enough! It's essential. It's also impossible to wash your hands throughout the day when out on delivery.
Either way these are the sorts of things that should have been implemented over a week ago. It's literally the bare minimum they can get away with now and I hope people will take the health of themselves and their families into their own hands following this statement.

Would anyone want half a van load of potentially contaminated bags of mail/parcels in their homes. Can't see that working or having the drivers spend 8 hours working outside. Totally wrong.themailman wrote:I posted on another thread that full time drivers are going to get absolutely shafted in all of this.
Having to do all the prep (not a big deal usually), but load the van also, drive to partners house and let them take 7 hours worth of delivery out the van - that's the issue there - you think full time non drivers will want to walk the streets for their whole shift? No of course not, so it will fall back on the driver.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets
