Consensus of opinion in my office is that he is in an underground bunker somewhere planning which M/Cs & D/Os will be next targetted for Executive action!

To be fair his silence is stunning. If I were a shareholder i would wonder if he was really just a glorified hatchet man.

He's holed up in his £2.3 million penthouse apartment enjoying the view of Lake Zurich while we are on the front lines delivering the mail in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Grrrr! :evil/mad

Many other top bosses have come out and if nothing else thanked their staff. I hear Tesco staff are getting bonuses and other incentives. And here we are continuing to risk ourselves for this expletive expletive expletive ….. :arrrghhh

He's busy compiling the headline article in the courier for when this is all over, it goes along the lines of how our valued postie's all pulled together to provide an excellent service during this extremely challenging period, however due to the constant decline of letters.......

He's somewhat safe from COVID-19 thus far, as long as he self-isolates. The worst affected area is the southern Swiss Canton of Ticino, which borders northern Italy. There, 28 people have died out of the 56 for the whole of Switzerland. Rico lives up north in the Canton of Zürich. It's not as bad as Ticino but still a heavily affected region.

People are relying on us
Group CEO Rico Back thanks colleagues for their incredible efforts

Group CEO Rico Back has thanked colleagues for their incredible efforts during these unprecedented times.

Thank you for your efforts during this very challenging time. I know it is a worrying situation. It is so great to see how everyone in Royal Mail is working together to maintain the core network to deliver and connect communities across the UK.

The postal service is a core part of the UK’s infrastructure. The delivery of letters and parcels is a key way of keeping the country connected. We are helping many people who do not have the option to leave their homes.

Our priorities are clear. They are:
  • 1. Protect our people – health comes first

    2. Protect our country

    3. Protect our company
My number one priority is protecting the health of everybody as much as we can. Every decision we make will put the health of our people and customers first. We have already made a series of adjustments to our parcel handling procedures to protect our colleagues and our customers.

We worked quickly to formulate and implement an appropriate sick pay and absence policy, and we are happy this is supported by CWU. Colleagues, including those with less than one year’s service, will receive pay in relation to any coronavirus illness or self-isolation.

We are keeping our ways of working under review. There will be more changes in the coming days and weeks. We need to adapt as the government advice evolves. We will keep you up to date. You can check the latest advice at myroyalmail.com/coronavirus.

Our second priority is continuing to deliver for the country. We are pleased that the government has given Royal Mail key worker status. This underlines the importance of Royal Mail to UK society.

More than ever, people are relying on us. We are an important part of every community we serve. We are working through what else we can do to help our government and our customers at this difficult time.

Finally, we need to make sure the business is in the best shape for the day after coronavirus. We will get through this, but changes might be necessary. We have to make sure that Royal Mail stays sustainable. The economic environment in which we will be operating will be quite different to today.

We all need to keep focussed on delivering the best possible service for our country and our customers. That won’t be forgotten.

Stay safe. Look after yourselves. And let’s keep delivering for the country.

Thank you once again.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

That is the biggest load of s**t I have heard from any CEO so far...

He's saying that were an essential part of the UK's infrastructure but still manages to include a barely disguised threat to the workforce that post-virus things will have to change.
Why is that comment even necessary?
Imagine the NHS staff being told that they're doing a brilliant job , but when this is over it'll be back to cutting back...

Good luck with trying to lay staff off after this thing is over...

Rico doesn't seem to realise that this virus changes everything...goodbye to the greedy capitalists in their ivory towers...goodbye dividends...

I have never seen a more obvious example of why we should be re-nationalised.

I've read a few CEO coronavirus letters lately, seems to be the thing.
This is the poorest, shitiest, least sincere and most loaded one I've read.

Couldn't resist a dig even though people are literally shitting themselves about their health, their families and their future.

Very very low.
