Key items in our place are parcels so the important nhs letters are being left in the frameRumple wrote:And that is my original point. We should be delivering KEY items only. These 1.5 million letters will have been handled by postmen and women who are handling and touching many, many surfaces and other NON KEY items.mr hil. wrote:One and a half million letters posted tomorrow from the NHS to the vulnerable members of our society, I guess that makes us Key workers.

Why has delivering d2d and other bumf been classed as key work ? Being put at risk and risking the health of my family on a daily basis is not key work. The CWU as my representative should be arguing to have me stay home and hopefully safe not putting us all at risk.

It hasn't. The key work is logistics and being able to deliver anywhere. For example delivering the 1.5 million letters to vulnerable groups who need to self isolate. As it is expect marketing mail to nose dive, though personally I think delivering books and other goods is of serious benefit to mental health in dire times.mitzi wrote:Why has delivering d2d and other bumf been classed as key work ? The kind of stuff you describe keeps us all in a job.Williaal2 wrote:It hasn't. The key work is logistics and being able to deliver anywhere. Indeed, though I fear what happens when non essential business is banned, as in Italy.aiden01 wrote:The kind of stuff you describe keeps us all in a job.Williaal2 wrote:It hasn't. We deliver medicine, we deliver important documents, parcels that bring a smile to people's faces at a time when they are stuck indoors.
Yes, door to doors are not that important right now.....maybe they will drop off as businesses like pizza hut may shut down for a while.

Haha glad to hear how important you all think delivering mostly advertising. I however care mostly about mine and my family's health. Everybody should be socially distancing themselves. How is this possible whilst walking all over the town never mind working in a van with another and in close proximity to another 80 or so colleagues in the DO

I don't think it'll be too many days before anything other than supermarkets and pharmacies (including Boots) will be opennorris9 wrote:Yes, door to doors are not that important right now.....maybe they will drop off as businesses like pizza hut may shut down for a while.

I'd say yes we do provide a needed service at times like these BUT!! our health cannot be overlooked either so we need royal mail and the union come up with a solution of some kind.

I don't think they give a toot about our health..
I was asked today to either van share with another postie, get dropped off by manager in the same car or use my own car for delivery.
Social distancing and government guidelines get thrown to the ground when a duty can't go out it seems.
Stood my ground and I said I wouldn't be doing any of those but it's absolutely insane to be getting these kind of instructions at the moment.
