COVID19 safety : From the wife of a postie
Dear all, I am the humble wife of a postie. I do not know your job. But I am scared. I am absolutely petrified of COVID-19 and how it is going to affect us all. Call me paranoid, in fact, call me what you want when this is all over. If we get through it safely, I really don't care what you think of me. But for now. If I can encourage you just one tiny bit, just one ounce, just one extra bit of gusto to stop the way you are being treated and thought of, then I'll take the ridicule ten fold. In short. You need to be protected at this time. There is no other service that deliveres to every household. No service that delivers to them every day. But you do. You guys do. And guess what. I know from my partner. I know the situation. No gloves. No masks. No hand sanitizer. No wipes. No place to wash your hands. For christ's sake. There is a global epidemic breaking. Thousands are dying. The UK is about to be at the epicentre of this horrendous atrocity. Your bosses at the top dont care for those on the bottom or even the spread to their service users. This isnt a game folks. It's not a movie where the end is rosey. This is real life and its gonna hurt. Real bad. Your bosses at the top are failing you. Please please please, from the bottom of my heart, dont stand for it. You need protection. The people you deliver to need protection. Your families you go home to need protection. You need to stay safe. If it takes a walk out, then by god you've gotta do it, what they gonna do? Sack you? For wanting protection against a killer disease? Ok Royal Mail, even I've no legal knowledge, but failing health and safety in times like these? I'll take my chances!

I was about 30 seconds away from asking the guys if we were going out yesterday morning, during a meeting.
I found myself getting angrier and angrier about the way RM are treating us right now, and I bit my tongue before saying something that I would regret.
We NEED gloves. We NEED hand sanitiser. Is it acceptable for RM to just say to us "We can't get it right now. We're just going to have to carry on until we do"?
Are we going to actually make a stand here, or are we just going to let the company take the piss out of us?

Well said. My wife is also very worried. She is a diabetic. I'm not a postie. I repair the fleet of Royal Mail vans. I don't come into contact with the the general public but I do come into contact with the posties who are in contact with them. We also have no wipes, no antibacterial wash and something has to be done.

How the hell are we still van sharing? We all know the social distancing rules by now, nobody should be going out in a van unless they are the sole occupant of that vehicle.

I'm worried to. My partner has asthma. I could bring it home to her. We all know the looks and comments we'll get from managers if we start washing our hands throughout the morning and cleaning our work stations. They should be calling off lapsing so we've got time to clean our work areas and Vans. We could be walking about infecting people . I'm shocked at there lack of info. People are dying this isn't a joke. We need to act for our and the publics sake.

I am a postie wife too and worried sick. I agree with everything Nat has said.
I am high risk and so is our child and the stories I hear about the way things go on with van sharing , no distancing, no handsanitisers etc is crazy. Now pubs have closed my hubby is not sure he will even be able nip to the loo on delivery let alone wash his hands.
