Not returning to work this coming week

Sorry my OP got hi-jacked by an idiot - anyhow, the main point is that it looks like I am not alone - which is great.
As it happens, I have now got a "slight cough" but that could be anything. As has my partner. So now my approach in tomorrow's phonecall to my manager is to state that I will be off for 14 days to isolate and monitor the situation.
I should imagine that in those 2 weeks there are going to be A LOT of changes.

Oh, and yes, as has been flagged on here - I will not be mixing with my parents at this time, despite my care duties - we are looking at the local district nurse to come in.

Thanks all, I am reassured that I am not the only one who loves the job, but does not want to risk their health (or their family's, or even our managers and customers!)

So will you only receive statutory sick pay then , or full pay ?

i live-in with my 70yr old parents one of which has copd, how the hell do i juggle this one?

Theres now a Few cases of younger ppl getting virus now maybe a wake up call for some .A 36 yr old nurse critically ill now .

Just too let you know its 7 days from when you start showing symptoms. 14 days for everyone else in your household from the first day you show symptoms. After 7 days your fever has gone you can come out of isolation.

If anyone else in your house shows symptoms during the 14 days then they start their 7 days isolation. If they show no symptoms after 14 days they come out of isolation.

If they are really stressed to a degree where they were unfit to work fair enough. If not they need to consider the fact it will count on their record toward any future stage warning. Also would need to be signed off by a doctor after the first 7 days and for a period of 12 weeks if they want it to cover the whole recommended self isolation period. Also I imagine GP’s are so over worked at the moment the last thing they need is to be dealing with fake illnesses.

It’s not an easy situation but you could think about using annual leave, unpaid special leave and maybe even, if your parents are healthy enough to care for themselves, finding temporary alternative accommodation, even staying in a hotel or a combination of all of those.

Hrm I am feeling the same as the OP now, company is an absolute joke if half of these things people have been told by managers is true. For me we need to get these letters from the government out to the vulnerable then rest of the shite can wait.

RM need to be very careful with these letter. If the media get wind the RM are prioritising parcels while these letter spend days stuck in the office, they may have a few questions too answer

Unlikely to happen as many MCs won't have the room to hold much mail. For smaller MCs chances are that an area that is storage for one shift will be a work area for another shift.
