We were told in our office this morning that we were no longer allowed to use our allocated bag drops unless they were behind locked doors (i.e. pouch boxes). We had to write on our bag labels the TIME we wanted the bags and that the drivers had to be there and 'hand' them to us!!!!! They were told they couldn't drop off more than one bag at a time? This meant that the drivers were going backwards and forwards to posties, and unable to get their specials, packets etc etc done.
Seeing as our drivers finish about 40 minutes before us (they start earlier), what happens when they finish for the day and still have bags on board??
This seems an absolutely pathetic idea. We were told it was a 'nationwide decision'.......I think not.....
Anyone else's office told this?

Its the start of the grinding down of us all. When they say the pouches should be behind locked doors, do they mean like a car boot?
I was asked a while ago to drop the bags for our various town walks in our office,not knowing the area particularly well i reluctantly agreed for a princley sum of overtime,when i got out i was shocked at some of the bag and pouch drops i was being asked to make..leaving them in a porchway or shed is one thing but i was being told to leave them on doorsteps..just plonked down in clear and plain view of the public.. ffs it doesn't take a genius to know what a big red bag full of Giros/cards/mailorder is does it ??? i've since refused to do them again as i don't want to leave myself openly exposed to the ramifications if one does get tampered with..(frankly i'm amazed it hasn't happened yet.) anywhere else partake of this kind of practice?

Why should we take the risk any more return to office 1 bag on shoulder nothing more no car's for royalmail can worry about getting your bag to you and no one else or return to office and pick up another this would cut your walking time dramatically and protect job's!.
is it right if my manager says my bags will be dropped into the local post office shop i can tell him that it isnt legal to do that and i want a pouch box??

We were told by the managers to sort out our own pouch drops and give suggestions to where we like them. Our comments were ignored. Royal Mail is runned by the good will of us the allerge 40% underworked posties. If the public and press actually found out about this then the will be an uproar.

This is what we've been told as well. Not a single pouch box has been installed in our town since 1998 I believe despite some major house building.
I have looked up on our local council's online planning application site and there's not even a mention of any planning applications for pouch boxes since 1997
Either someone has been telling us porkies or there's something wrong with the website
The pouch box situation does vary from town to town though. I was in Leytonstone last month visiting friends and there were pouch boxes on near enough every street corner.
Another observation I have made is that planning applications only get approved when you DON'T have a Conservative authority in power.
And actually no one seems to give a s**t.
