The measures will be considered as time goes on, Boris Johnson says. But he stresses people should not go out tonight to such venues.

"We want you to stay at home to protect the NHS and save lives," he adds.

Me Johnson said it seemed to go against the freedom-loving instincts of British people but "we will get through this - we will get through it together and beat this virus".

The government will pay 80% of wages for employees not working, up to £2,500 a month, the chancellor says.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

So let me get this straight... loads of people will get paid to sit at home for the next 3 months... while we have to work our asses off out in public, receive sweet f**k all, and then once this all blows over. RM will come in and make a bunch of us redundant. And there's literally no incentive now for all those people that would have been made unemployed to go work in any of the industries that will be keeping the country going...

You could not create a more broken policy... Idiotic.

I expected this Tory government to f**k things up beyond believe... I just didn't foresee it would be like this...

no mass gatherings unless you work in a royal mail delivery office, where you will also be working centimeters apart.

A diary of today:

6.45am Bus didn’t turn up, heard from a few others that their bus didn’t arrive either. I wonder if this is the start of a big cutback in public transport.

7.05am Bus arrives. Guy sat in the middle spluttering away not covering his mouth. Unbelievable.

7.25am Go to my frame working centimetres from others.

8.25am Given next weeks D2Ds. When are we going to start prioritising what actually will benefit people?!

8.35am Had to warn a touchy feely person who’s constantly slapping people on the back to give me a bit of space.

8.45am Queue up for specials. No social distancing here.

9.15am Hear from my sister, who’s taken her husband in for his operation. They arrive to find it’s cancelled as all doctors, surgeons etc are required elsewhere. Yesterday she was telling me it’s all mass panic. I wonder if she realises this is just the start.

11am Get to a customers address who laughed at me on Wednesday for putting the parcel on the floor and stepping back. On his door he now has a sign saying he’s showing symptoms and to stay away.

1.15pm Deliver a dog toy to a customer “oh I only ordered that yesterday.” Seriously, is there nothing more pressing we could deliver than farmfoods leaflets and dog toys!

1.45pm Drive down towards a farm, soon as I go in the back of the van for the parcel the old dear who lives there has opened the door and is right next to me. No time to step 2 metres back. Bath salts this time.

3.15pm Finish the round. Collections staff all sat around playing pool within inches of each other.

3.30pm Get the bus back home. Only 3 people on so I purposefully sit as far away as I can from others. That works until the next stop when a gob on legs gets on, sits on the next row to me and has a phone chat about ‘fck the government lets go get smashed.’

When are we going to wake up, look at the situation in Italy and start giving each other space?!!

Royal Mail need to come up with new indoor working methods during this crisis otherwise we are all doomed and so will much of the public be on the delivery routes.

Hmmm I'd rather people were given financial help and didn't lose their homes, and starve to death, personally.

Be grateful for what you have.

Point is, this policy gives an insane benefit to a certain group of people (worth up to 30 thousand pounds a year), whereas, if you're self employed and the work dries up you get around £4750 a year.

And if you're a low paid worker, still in a job... you'll be overworked as f**k for the next 12 months. And as it stands, you'll receive literally no help from the government. While others can self isolate in total safety with 30k free money to spend.

What are the chances that the Royal Mail sickness policy survives the next few months, let alone 18 months?

Sure, then freeze all mortgage payments, and give a Universal basic income.

Why give certain people £30,000 a year, and others £4750 a year, people who are in pretty much the same situation.

And why not get some of those healthy young low risk people (that are being paid to sit at home), to cover some of the jobs of older people with underlying health issues. People that are higher risk, but still have to work during the outbreak. Many of those jobs, food production, supermarkets, and ours are low skilled.
