No pay in two weeks

Postie A and postie B are both full time on van share.
To cover their duty and the prep of part timer (Postie C) costs RM 7h 36 + 7h 36. (15h 12)

Postie A goes sick and postie B offers to cover both duties for 4h overtime. Postie C now needs to come in and prep his own duty for 2 h overtime.

To cover the same work now costs RM
Postie A 7h 36 off sick
Postie B 7h 36 plus 4h overtime
Postie C 2h overtime (SSPR)

15 hours work is now costing over 21 hours.

If 25% of your workforce is off sick that is going to be a monumental cost to the business.

Easy answer if postie a is sick fail his round ( this is the plan btw) no additional ot required, then postie b alternates between his job and postie a's job every other day. No additional expense to RM.

Cool. Watched it again. So only sick pay for folk under a year is to be reviewed?

Was only trying to piece together how someone could claim we had no money. I thought Chinese whispers but the original poster clarified earlier.

Postie B will be delivering two days mail every day at no extra cost?
He must be one fit bastard if he can sustain that for any length of time.
And all the Tracked and SD items will fail every other day?
And someone will still need to prep the duty for postie C.

The plan may be to forget the letters and deliver only parcels and SD items but those letters will need to be delivered one day.

And we are only looking at this from a delivery perspective.
What happens in a mail centre?

Aren't we super duper essential workers now, the Gov won't see us go under anyway, the chancellor is about to unveil his economic plan, I've just seen Rico there with his cap ready...

Plus let's be honest, it's all bollox anyway....isn't it? :nervous

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

We were informed of this today, but slightly different from what's been said here.

DOM said he'd been told in a conference call with his manager that in three weeks the business will run out of money to pay us due to businesses shutting down over the coming weeks meaning that they're not sending letters/parcels through us. He said that his manager has told him no overtime, no one coming in on their day off for overtime either. Some walks might not be covered and if they're not then they will be staying in. Some duty holders might be told to move duty and if its a shared van duty then one of posties in that shared van duty would be doing walk a on one day and walk b on the next and so on. And also that if you go off because a family member is sick you won't be paid and likewise if you go off with stress because you've been forced to move duty.

Apparently this is all due to the fact that there's currently nearly 100 people off sick at the moment across our whole area.

This may well be scaremongering by higher management, but I'm just reporting on what we've been told in our office by DOM. I personally think this is a cover up for something else - like, executive action.

We have already had that talk. As I said earlier head of sector said there's no more duty holders while this goes on. Our manager even singled out 30 year guys. If a duty fails one day you can be taken off yours to cover it the next. This is the flexibility the company mite need in the weeks ahead but at the end of the day if you can't or don't won't to do overtime for royal mail then just bring a loop back. Do you see what I did there?

Obviously, and you know what I'm talking about, can't believe you posted that.

Government stepping in to pay 80% of wages for employees who are furloughed instead of laid off due to the virus. Anyone reckon Rico might be sensing an opportunity there? I can see part time staff who’d potentially have very little to do in the current climate sent home on the government’s coin for blocks of time.

I sense rm already now devising a way to stop full sick pay and just get the government to front the cost of wages just because, place your bets now.

Sorry, Postman  Just thought it may have been read as something else. I believe there are still a lot of people out there that think this is all blown out of proportion...I'd better check my temperature!
