No pay in two weeks

I rang 111 on Thursday at approx 6:30 in the morning and they told me 14 days self isolation.

As always it seems to be a minefield of Truths and Untruths ! compounded by the fact no one is being tested so how the hell do you know if you have it / had it or it maybe something else ! as the case my be ?

To the guy that's off sick awaiting update. We had head of sector in yesterday. He was in discussing stuff with manager. All that came out of it was that we are no longer duty holders while all this is going on. If a duty fails one day we can be moved on to cover it the next. That is all. Maybe what your mate is going to contact you about.

In our office today they are telling people who need to self isolate due to a partner or family member having symptoms that they will not be paid sick pay and will only be getting statutory sick pay instead. At least two people have been told that already and a manager confirmed it. So now those that should be away from the office for everyone's safety will now be in as they can't afford to not be there. Good f'n job Royal mail.

Just say you have symptoms as well, then you get paid.

The misinformation isn't on here, it is in the office of the post I quoted. If they are going to try what was mentioned there (because technically you aren't sick if it is a housemate who has symptoms) then just say you have them too.

Normally yeah but when people are already concerned and anxious about health ,relatives and livelihood cockwombles post on here is not much help.He should have asked His manager to clarify what He stated.We would be rich if We had a fiver for every bit of bull a manager told us.

On a forum specifically designed for this type of discussion, I would have thought it was considered appropriate to relay any somewhat alarming information that we (and others as well apparently) were briefed on in a 15-minute floor meeting with 5 managers, two of whom are DOMs.

But since you ask, we did ask our manager to clarfiy, and the story we were spun was:

If sickness goes above 25% of the workforce, which is looking increasingly possible, the business will only be able to afford to pay staff for a maximum of two weeks. Thereafter, it may be that we are asked to work for free or possibly half pay in order to keep the business afloat. So in the meantime, take as many precautions as possible to stay healthy.

Now, do with that information what you will - it may be that the real story here is that, as is often the case, DOMs are once again resorting to bullying tactics and feeding the workforce with lies to scare them into working when they aren't fit to. I could 100% believe that. But in this situation, our DOM, who doesn't have a great reputation for being amiable, was unusually candid and forthright; and another DOM who happened to be in our office that day (who most consider reasonably trustworthy) also echoed that this is what the DOMs in our region had been told by senior management.

Nonetheless, it seemed diligent to at least enquire as to whether anybody else had been given the same speech. And if they hadn't, then that leaves the 130 or so staff present with an abundance of fear-mongering material for a pretty massive bullying and harrassment case.

In any case, my appologies if anyone feels that this has added to their anxiety, not my intention at all. And for what it's worth, I think it's all smoke and mirrors and people need not panic.

RM can only afford to pay staff on sick for 2 weeks?

The one issue i have is that as posties we get sick pay at full rate, so the company is paying exactly the same amount out each week whether you turn up or not, the only difference is efficiency will drop through the floor and things wont get delivered ( it may actually cost them less as they wont be paying out as much ot if people re off sick)

Sounds like a manager heard this info and said " no sick pay in 2 weeks" then that became " no pay in 2 weeks you will need to work for free"

Watch it again, it's regarding those who are in employment for less than a year.

It's a shame people take advantage of sick pay, but with managers chasing bonuses and the big wigs not caring, i don't negatively judge any of these people. Though i really do hope new starters going sick get some sick pay if they are genuinely ill.
