This includes staff needed for essential financial services provision (including but not limited to workers in banks, building societies and financial market infrastructure), the oil, gas, electricity and water sectors (including sewerage), information technology and data infrastructure sector and primary industry supplies to continue during the COVID-19 response, as well as key staff working in the civil nuclear, chemicals, telecommunications (including but not limited to network operations, field engineering, call centre staff, IT and data infrastructure, 999 and 111 critical services), Postal Services and Delivery, payments providers and waste disposal sectors.

If workers think they fall within the critical categories above they should confirm with their employer that, based on their business continuity arrangements, their specific role is necessary for the continuation of this essential public service.

Guidance for schools, colleges and local authorities on maintaining educational provision


If it is at all possible for children to be at home, then they should be.

Parents should also do everything they can to ensure children are not mixing socially in a way which can continue to spread the virus. They should observe the same social distancing principles as adults.

Was thinking this through a bit.
In a normal scenario people would make arrangements during the Easter and Summer Hols to take annual leave or at least get the grandparents to look after little Bob and Bobbie but obviously the grandparents are out and staff shortages are going to be mental so there's going to be pressure especially on NHS staff who are fit to keep going so... are the kids of key workers going to be in school right through this?

With a lot of businesses closing I'd assume there is going to be a big drop off in letters/flats.

Perhaps though a rise in parcels with people less likely to want to go out & about.

Shouldn't key workers therefore be tested for the virus , after all there are people out there carrying the virus but showing no symptoms , how do we know we are not.
Shouldn't we also get our own time slots in supermarkets ?

Going by my Delivery office, the drop off in letters hasn't come through yet, but the parcels have went through the roof.

It has been left to individual Scottish councils to draw up the list to reflect “the diverse range of localities” in the country.

However, it is not expected the list of key workers in Scotland will be radically different to the list published by the UK government

my local council hasnt added Postal workers as key workers... also they added both parents must be keyworkers for the childcare
