Probably the most idiotic thread I've seen on this forum, as if some of our colleagues haven't got enough to worry about at the moment without this shite been posted

Thought it was quite clear that I was just attempting to unravel and debunk some of the waffle we've received from RM; just interested to know if this was
something RM are trying to circulate companywide or if it's just the DOM in our office.

Isn't that idea of these forums?

But thanks for the input - I've received more grief for this than I ever have from RM management :thumbup

Have to agree with 'redwomble'

Surely this (or any) forum is to discuss events. If a credible source, in this case, management tells you something, then surely it's up for discussion, not for flaming and grief.
You may not believe or agree with what's been said, you're just passing on what you've been told.

There is a lot of misinformation going round on Facebook (why I never use it) and other social media but hearing something directly from a RM manager whether it's true or just management bu****it still makes it a topic worthy of discussion.

I've only just joined this thing and already feel a bit disheartened by it

Normally yeah but when people are already concerned and anxious about health ,relatives and livelihood cockwombles post on here is not much help.He should have asked His manager to clarify what He stated. We would be rich if We had a fiver for every bit of bull a manager told us.

Why do people have to come out with this scaremongering rubbish
The business has form for it right back to the Leighton days, losing a million bucks a day, days away from going bust blah blah.

However.... We can't hide from the fact that what's going on is going to affect/cost the business big time, remember GLS has been throwing a big chunk into the collective pot for a number of years and who knows how bad it is in Europe for parcels, I think every business will/should be looking at survival first right now and leave the grand plans until later. It could be some kind of government bailout might be on the cards if this lasts for 6 months to a year but there's not much point in worrying. We're all in this (s**t) together, the workers that is.

Thing is, 3 managers at my office said exactly the same thing.
I was in a rush, preparing to go out on delivery, the usual chaos and seperatly 3 managers said the same to me

I was a bit shellshocked but kind of brushed it aside, thinking to myself, of course this wouldn't happen.
I didn't ask for confirmation, a written statement or proof anything becuase I was on my way out of the door and had other things on my mind.

My own manager who is the most despised, hated and feared bullying manager in my office came over to me I said (sheepishly) I'm leaving some of these parcels because I'll never get them all done if I take them, his words were, "I don't give a f**k, we've been told we've only got 2 weeks left".
It didn't seem the right moment to ask him for proof or confirmation.

Now, the point is, that event did happen, that is a fact. I personally still dont believe it but it happened. And so therefore it would seem to me, perfectly rational to discuss it with other people.

Agreed with all the virus stuff and other worries going on it's not good to add to the worries, I agree but this did seem worthy of discussion and the OP felt the same. He was asking if any other people had heard the same thing and what peoples thoughts on it were.

I don't think he was stating the story as a fact, he was just stating what a RM manager had said

So the "official" media outlets are full of stories about how firms and individuals could receive government help to survive the Corona Virus situation with cash injections, loans etc, but RM (only yesterday confirmed as an essential service) will be allowed to go to the wall with staff "working for nothing"?
That shows the true level of intelligence in the postal hierarchy.

Rule number 1 guys, whatever the managers say take it with a pinch of salt, then come on here for the real info.
Even if they say XMAS is on the 25th Dec.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low life c***s they have always been.

And don't get me started about Facebook :cuppa

Just read this and text someone I work with as I'm off self isolating and he's text back saying they had a brief this morning but it's okay whatever that means and he will ring me when he's done to let me know what's going on. I am waiting for a parcel to get here so i'll ask my postie when he knocks on the door.

In our office today they are telling people who need to self isolate due to a partner or family member having symptoms that they will not be paid sick pay and will only be getting statutory sick pay instead. At least two people have been told that already and a manager confirmed it. So now those that should be away from the office for everyone's safety will now be in as they can't afford to not be there. Good f'n job Royal mail.

In that scenario , we have been told you can take your holiday , unpaid leave or sort out some flexible working at a later date.

Both are wrong.
If anyone in your household has to self isolate so do you.
All absences should be treated as sickness absence. Managers should choose “Coronavirus with Symptoms” if the employee has symptoms and “Coronavirus Self Isolation” if they do not have symptoms. Please update the absence if the reason for absence changes.

I would advise any managers that might be lurking on here that starting any rumours about the financial viability of the company would more than likely be seen as gross misconduct given that it's a publicly listed company and if those rumours were to take hold it could affect the share price.

Just saying guys.
And yes I would stick you in it no worries.
