Half a million antiseptic wipes have been purchased : Disposable gloves are available to order also hand sanatiser and soap: Will Royal Mail be providing face masks? Updated 2 Apr

Post by POSTMAN »

We have been told that half a million antiseptic wipes have been purchased alongside hundreds of thousands of pairs of gloves. These are being dispatched.
Regular hand washing is the most effective way to reduce the chance of contracting and spreading any virus and there are practical solutions to handwashing on delivery and collection which should be considered:
  • • Washing hands before leaving the office to start your duty and on return
    • Request to use facilities of a business customer (they are legally required to provide toilet facilities)
    • Make use of any public toilets
    • If there is an urgent requirement to wash hands e.g. first aid incident, consider stopping your delivery/collection and visit the nearest public convenience or drive back to your office.
Disposable gloves are available to order, please speak to your line manager.

To place an order for disposal gloves - order form on intranet - mark the subject as **URGENT**. Power free/Latex free/Rubber free.

Q. Why don’t we have hand sanitiser?

A. The hand soap that we provide is effective for hand washing and good hand hygiene. It is also possible to order sanitiser or gel. However, there are long lead times for these products. We are trying to get it. But, so is everyone else.

Do we have enough soap?
A.Yes. We have enough soap. If you need more soap, please speak to your manager, who can contact the PFS Helpdesk.

It will coordinate a replenishment service via the local Cleaning Team. When we are cleaning items in Royal Mail (non-health care setting) do we need to use a product that contains 70% Alcohol?

Our suppliers have confirmed that our cleaning products are suitably effective for cleaning in a non-healthcare setting as per the guidance issued by PHE. Where there has been a confirmed case, then a viricidal product is used to disinfect touch points and potentially contaminated surfaces.

We have nothing in our office at all, no gloves, no wipes nothing at all to protect posties. The manager simply does not care. Lapsing eight on Saturday as 5 people of with corona isolation and no one will work overtime including me.

We never had any wipes at our place, so where did they all go, office workers so they could eat their lunch at their desks?
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

Today i saw a postman wearing washing up gloves. Yeah, that's right, washing up gloves. Not only is this nuts, this shows customers that Royal Mail can't even provide PPE to staff during an epidemic. This thread is the first i've seen about anti-septic wipes even existing in the business, and latex or nitrite gloves. Cleaning person sure as hell isn't deep cleaning anything, consistently on their phone even. It's nice when we have the agency guys come in cleaning instead, those chaps do a stellar job. Toilets look and smell nice when they've been.

PPE Supplies

There is a Global shortage of ‘disinfectant wipes’ and Royal Mail Assets and Procurement have been endeavouring to secure replenishment supplies from a large number of suppliers. The priority by the industry has been to direct supplies to the NHS first. Some supplies have been secured by Royal Mail which have been despatched but a substantial order of 6 million wipes in packs of 300 should arrive in at the end of next month followed by monthly deliveries of 10,000 wipes.

There were wipes in the gas boxes this morning.
They also had hand wash last week. Not in the quantities they had ordered but they did get some.

Might be a strange thought, but it may be an idea if they didn't focus on hand sanitiser so much (by all means get it for us), but we could be supplied soap and a big bottle of water instead (which could be easier to source, would be more effective, and probably safer given what hand sanitiser does to your skin when you overuse).

We still need disninfectant wipes ASAP, and masks would be helpful if they become possible to obtain.

Public toilets are all closed. Most businesses such as pubs and restaurants closed. No toilet facilities available. 18 mile round trip to office toilet.

Few large businesses still open and they have sanitisers at door for all visitors to use on entry and exit. Shops, supermarkets, petrol stations and pharmacies have sanitisers available, gloves for staff and customers.

Our delivery office, no sanitisers at entrance or callers office, never had gels, gloves or wipes.

No excuses Royal Mail, you are negligent.
