It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Exactly why the union have lost so much support since the last ballot. Do we expect the leadership of RM or the membership to take them seriously when they act like 7 year olds producing this kind of crap? Maybe they think that this will be conducive to constructive talks going forward. Bunch of clowns who should resign.POSTMAN wrote:Yeah.... Royal Mail are well up for a chat with The CWU...

I was one of those who couldn't bring myself to vote. I am against a lot of what RM are doing, but I'm also against the union's approach of trying to make this some kind of idealogical fight to protect the USO, and have absolutely no faith at all in the union leadership.

I really don't get the negativity towards the Union's decision. I would see the ideas being borne out as something not all that different to what a lot of us do already.
The bulk of the work would revolve around getting vital supplies to wherever needed.
I think some people may see the term 'emergency services' and jump to conclusions.
I would stand by the Union's decision. This is an unprecedented time, and it would be an opportunity for CWU and RM to actually work together for the greater good.
To all the folks who think otherwise, just WHAT alternative would you have had the Union present..?

What exactly is Ward suggesting we do?ssdd wrote:

Visit the elderly and vulnerable? You need to be vetted to do that and it has already been trialled. Needless to say it wasn't rolled out nationally. What training do any of us have to deal with any of their problems? Or what if you went and infected them unwittingly?
Deliver essential supplies? What essential supplies exactly? Box sets of Line of Duty for those isolating? Rationed bog roll?
As I said elsewhere this is like the missing persons alerts.
A great idea but ultimately pointless. Since its induction how many missing people have you found?
It is childish grandstanding. Let's pretend we still play an important role in the fabric of the nation rather than admit we are paid £12/hour to deliver Hilary's Blinds leaflets.
I am fairly certain if they do role any of this out, it will be for the rep and his mates and they will all be on 3 hours SA every day for pretending to do something.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

I take your points clash, but you haven't provided an alternative Union offering. Who said anything about missing persons...?clashcityrocker wrote:What exactly is Ward suggesting we do?ssdd wrote:

We may not provide that valuable link to the community that we once did, but if we were to work hand in hand (not literally of course, due to social distancing) then I can't see how this would be a bad thing for either the Union or RM.
I wouldn't see ALL posties being expected to undertake the additional roles.

There are some very simple things we could be helping with:ssdd wrote:I take your points clash, but you haven't provided an alternative Union offering. Who said anything about missing persons...?clashcityrocker wrote:What exactly is Ward suggesting we do?ssdd wrote:

We should have LAT style rounds, picking up patients medicine from doctors and pharmacies and delivering it. We could be going to Tesco and Sainsbury’s, supporting them by delivering the online orders which they are fully booked up on for weeks.
We are delivery people not social carers, let’s dig in and help with what we are good at.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

People are reporting delivery slots from Supermarkets are all fully booked until end of April! Surely this is where we can come in if RM filter mail to stop us delivering D2Ds, the beano and clubcard statements and prioritise essential items.

The USO would need changing first. Then you'd have to stop the sending of "non-essential items", otherwise the "non-essential items" would need to be stored in DOsHTPostman wrote:Surely this is where we can come in if RM filter mail to stop us delivering D2Ds, the beano and clubcard statements and prioritise essential items.

Maybe get some feedback from their members first .ssdd wrote:I really don't get the negativity towards the Union's decision. I would see the ideas being borne out as something not all that different to what a lot of us do already.

I did because the same arguments being used now were being used then - we are embedded in every community, we are the last bastion of civil society etc.ssdd wrote:

But did we ever find anyone?
What alternative is there? We deliver the mail as best we can for as long as we can.
I think our presence on the streets provides people with a semblance of normality in very challenging times.

The alternative is they sit in a room like adults instead of cunning stunts and discuss with RM how best to protect this company from the both the health and financial effects of Coronavirus.ssdd wrote: What's the alternative?
This company that provides for over 100,000 members and their families in the UK. That might sound a little selfish but we're not helping anyone if we're on the dole. If people want to really help in the community there are plenty of opportunities to volunteer.

Well the Union had to come up with SOMETHING other than 'it's just business as usual'. Is it just business as usual?
At least the Union are appearing to be proactive in taking the initiative...I'm not hearing anything 'novel' from RM...
