PM: Key worker pupils should attend school on Monday

Asked whether schools that have already closed to pupils will be forced to re-open to key worker children, Mr Johnson says the government will work to ensure that - where necessary - schools will provide facilities for those pupils.

"Not every school [will be] providing the service for key workers and the vulnerable," he adds.

However, he says that on Monday 23 March vulnerable children and the children of key-worker parents should turn up to their current school as normal.

Announcement so far today from government is that "delivery drivers" are considered key-workers but no more info yet. I would assume we would be but to be confirmed.

These needs to be clarified, and flexibility is still needed. I can’t send my kids to school regardless of whether one in the area might be open for a handful of children, and I won’t be the only person.

I'd imagine we are key workers.

The issue is more of what parts of our work should be considered "key". D2ds and most parcels are, realistically, far from important (in this kind of setting), but many letters and some parcels will absolutely be important.

The question is at what point it becomes necessary (if it gets to this point) to separate the important stuff out and ensure it's delivered while putting the rest on hold.

Our office had a few sick today, with a few walks still with unsorted parcels all over the bottom of the mail filled frame (that's stuffed with extra council tax letters that only arrived this morning) when I got back from my delivery (a smidge over time). As this takes hold we may see more and more go sick (or having to be off to look after kids etc), which begs the question of how long any walk can be left undelivered with less and less people on hand to go out and do it? At some point, stuff needs prioritising to go out with other stuff staying undelivered, and someone will need to take time to sift through and prep that priority stuff...

If it does go on for a few months then upper management need to have some idea of what absolutely has to go out, and who is available to sort it before it gets to the DOs, clogging them up.

Yeah and contact lenses on repeat plus there's a guy on my walk who receives Viagra on a monthly basis not to mention the Ann summers orders which I assume will come in handy for these times of isolation not leaving the house.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

It's going to be essentials like food and fuel distribution, it's not going to be dresses from boohoo and pizza hut menus.

IF we're needed for important s**t that might change but get a grip guys, most of the tat we deliver isn't necessary in an emergency scenario.

It'd still have to be stored in DOs as MCs won't have the room to store it. RM would need to get OFCOM to change the USO before it could happen anyway

Do you honestly think all this crap is going to keep coming when we go into full lockdown?
Who's going to be holding a massive final furniture sale ends Tuesday in these circumstances?

Doesn't matter what the contents of it are, it still has to be delivered if it falls under the USO. Some of the d2ds might have been ordered/booked weeks ago
