Long-term care for a dependant: It can be hard balancing work and caring for a dependant who is
ill or unable to look after themselves. In these circumstances you should speak to your manager, who
can help you explore your options. These may include alternative shift patterns or a flexible working
arrangement. In longer term situations, unpaid leave of up to six months or a career
break of up to two years can be arranged.

Think about it this way, how many NHS workers have kids?
How are they going to square that circle?
If the schools close are the teachers getting paid?
Teachers tend to get paid during school hols but this could be six months and what about the teaching assistants, jannies and those guys that used to wheel in the massive TVs (not sure what they do now) I'm pretty sure they only get paid during term time.

It's a whole clusterfuck of issues that Boris is going to have to dig deep to sort out.
