PM says everyone should avoid office, pubs and travelling

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said everyone in the UK should now avoid "non-essential" travel and contact with others to fight coronavirus.
He said people should work from home where possible, as part of a range of stringent new measures.
Pregnant women, people over the age of 70 and those with certain health conditions should consider the advice "particularly important", he said.
People in at-risk groups will be asked within days to stay home for 12 weeks.
Sir Patrick Vallance, the UK's chief scientific adviser, said other measures may be necessary - including school closures - at some point.
"Those things need to be done at the right time," he said.
The UK government's chief medical adviser, Prof Chris Whitty, said the chance of dying with the virus "for any individual person" was "very low".
But he added that if one person in any household starts to display symptoms, everyone living there must stay at home for 14 days.
Mr Johnson said the 14-day stay at home advice "means that if possible you should not go out, even to buy food or essentials, other than for exercise and in that case at a safe distance from others".
Prof Whitty said social restrictions would be "very difficult for people to maintain" but they would be "doing it to protect the NHS from being overwhelmed".

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Good advice but how will it work in our occupation? Back to work Wednesday after long weekend. Going to be working in office for 5 hours a day with at least 60 other postmen who will have contact with God knows how many customers and their own family members. My wife in at risk group as I'm sure quite a few of your spouses are. Where do we stand? Do we put our partners at risk? Do we risk the wrath of Royal Mail? Do we follow government advice? We all need to find these things out. This affects us all

Italian postmen are still delivering throughout the lockdown, and with hundreds of people dying a day. Expect us to be doing so too.

I must've missed that bit. I decided not to have the flu jab this year or last year but I have asthma and COPD. I did hear on the news that anyone with underlying health conditions would hear by Friday but didn't say how, phone call/text/letter.viking1488 wrote:people with asthma fall into the groups the pm was talking about there are a few in my office looks like we are going to have a lot going off.... minimal social contact in a delivery office is impossible. shoulder to shoulder on letter sorting, face to face on parcel sorting. multiple touching of unsanitised surfaces.
