The stats are what's concerning, especially the mortality rate in people over 60, and the number of people who get pneumonia and/or respiratory failure. You wouldn't be classing this as overblown if you worked in a hospital in Italy or Spain right now.

Is this virus an existential threat to the human population, no.

Will it kill a significantly large number of people, and wreck havoc to our daily lives and healthcare systems for the next few months (possibly longer), yes.

Don't panic?

Panic doesn't serve much of a purpose. However your post reads as if you are still not understanding the gravity of the situation!

What?

In terms of health and surviving this virus:

I personally am not worried about myself and my family, although my parents are in their 60's, but they are healthy. BUT younger, supposedly healthy people have died from this. I do not know what is going on in Italy, but people are falling like flies which is concerning.

In terms of the older population and those who have underlying health conditions.....I worry for them. But these people should use common sense and stay at home and their friends and relatives should be supporting them, although not visiting them, they should just keep in contact with them and make sure they have online food order deliveries coming in. Any business should be telling any vulnerable people to stay at home. We still have older people with health conditions coming into work at our depot!!!!! WHY!?

In terms of finances:

The world is burning. Everywhere you look countries are pretty much shutting down everything. There will be job losses, companies going bankrupt, massive national/international businesses may be killed off by this.

It is not expected to peak for two months, let alone weeks. Let us all hope we end up more in a South Korea situation than an Italy one.

If you look at the numbers in China, where you could argue they have had their peak of infections, it stands at around 80,860 cases, thats from a population of around 1.3 billion people. Their new cases have been dropping for a while now, around 10-20 new cases a day (source https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/#countries" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). Those numbers just don't fit the governments predictions.

From approx 40,000 tests taken just around 1,300 are covid-19 meaning 38,700 are just normal cold/flu. Which one should you really worry about, normal flu is just as nasty for at risk groups.

Yes, of course the numbers will rise and we should do more to protect ourselves just as we should any other flu season.

When you have 24 hour rolling news about a single story people are going to think it's worse than it is.

My greatest concern with this virus is people live in hope because China ‘reports’ fewer and fewer cases. The same China who silenced the doctors who discovered the virus back in December, who would’ve probably placed them in one of their many re-education camps if they talked against the state. The same China who control what the population can look at and post on the internet.

It’s no wonder there aren’t many cases being reported in China now, they won’t acknowledge them!

So forgive me for starting to panic a bit, but when the same country who could’ve done something back in December but didn’t now says ‘keep yer head up, everything is ok now’ I’m reluctant to believe them.

We’ll have a better idea of the situation by watching Italy closely. They are predicted to be about 2 weeks ahead of the situation here in the UK. AND they have a bigger better funded health system with I believe 3 times as many beds, and have much stricter isolation rules.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

Look at the stats, well the stats only show people that HAVE been tested
It's minute because the testing group is so small.
Those people that are told to isolate are not being tested or counted in this.

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavir ... 9-testing/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
As of March 9th 2020
UK
Tested 26,261 (think of Hull or Bradford city football ground)
tests per million people 387
Uk Population 67,886,011
OFFICIAL

USA is worse with only 26 per million tested

No we should NOT panic but we should be cautious and take care.
