If you have a continuous cough, the government has advised yto self isolate, and stay at home for 7 days, without even "going out for a walk".

If we take the governments advice, will this be brought against us by Royal Mail's attendance policy?

As it stands, we don't know. All they've said is all employees will get paid if they have to self isolate.

Whether it counts towards a stage is unknown. Just follow NHS 111 advice, and self-isolate if you have to. I can't imagine they'd get very far issuing stages for suspected coronavirus. As has been said many times, it's not about the person that has the cough, who might be only mildly unwell and would ordinarily go to work. It's about trying to delay the spread of the disease, so that more vunerable people can better avoid it, and so the NHS intensive care units aren't overwhelmed.

There were a few people in my DO who came into work even though they were coughing today. They did so because they are afraid of getting disciplined

Even the manager was clearly sick, hiding away in the office

Do you have access to a thermometer if so and your temperature is over 37.8 C or 100 F As well you should self isolate as to the procedure know one knows if you can get it twice but if you have symptoms it is only right you should self isolate and tell your manager you think you may have COV-19. The last thing we need is the infection spreading at this time or any time worry about the consequences later but I am sure it will be a hot topic and self isolate and get better soon all the best!

The definitive answer is that absences due to self-isolating due to showing Covid-19 symptoms yourself, or if a member of your household is, will not count for sick unless such absences are repeated or prolonged, when they might be (not will be, might be) RM put that out days ago.

I grant you it's a bit woolly on 'prolonged' but I'd suggest if you go off with symptoms twice, or if you're absent for more than 7 days (having reported yourself with symptoms), or 14 days (household with symptoms), or extraordinarily, 21 days (household had symptoms and you displayed symptoms on the very day you were due to return).

It's hard to see how they could actually be very specific given there are three different timescales involved and repeat sickness is not unlikely given one might have a cough without having CV-19, or indeed a temperature without having CV-19.

It's wise to be a bit paranoid about how RM will treat things like this, but I think in this case they can't be clearer because nobody could be.

I came back to work last week after self isolating for 2 weeks. On Saturday I was given a letter to indicate I had triggered a stage but they were not pursuing it due to the coronavirus. Which I thought was bloody nice of them...
