The least they could do is allow us to sign for items ourselves in the presence of the recipient to avoid scores of different people handling our PDA's every day.

What's the point when our fellow posties pick their noses, arses and ears, sneeze all over the frame, cough and fart in any general direction,wacko74 wrote:The least they could do is allow us to sign for items ourselves in the presence of the recipient to avoid scores of different people handling our PDA's every day.
can't be arsed washing their hands after having a number one, then go to the canteen, pick up a PDA, drive a vehicle, use door handles, leave their manky
half eaten sandwiches and burgers in the wagon etc

Gov.uk has guidance for employers and businesses 15. covers post,
15. Handling post, packages or food from affected areas
Employees should continue to follow existing risk assessments and safe systems of work. There is no perceived increase in risk for handling post or freight from specified areas.

The risk is from the people we deliver to - who we have no idea if they are off work sick and self isolating or notmrcurve wrote:Gov.uk has guidance for employers and businesses 15. covers post,

If you are self isolating and not leaving the house then your going to order stuff to be delivered and that means they are isolated from everyone else bar us
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

Does RM have an actual policy to deal with coronavirus?
There is no policy. Like the poster earlier said, it wouldn’t make a difference anyway, the hygiene and general attitude to cleanliness here is disgusting. I’ve found mouldy sandwiches, rotten fruit in vans. I’ve witnessed colleagues throw rubber bands on the floor out on the street. I doubt many wash their hands after using the staff toilets - after all it takes 20 seconds and when you’ve started half an hour before your time you don’t have a spare 20 seconds if you want to try to get done early (note: I start on time and wash my hands!).
I work in the office which delivers to the hotel which had the first case of the virus here in the UK.
Was the postman who delivers there daily tested and quarantined? No
Was his uniform, pouch, trolley given a deep clean? No
Were his 190 colleagues tested, kept in the loop, informed? No. Think about that, 190 colleagues potentially with the virus, spreading it across the county, delivering to schools, stadiums, train stations, tourist hotspots.
Did the hotel immediately close, with an exclusion zone around the area? No, people still checked in on the same floor. Wouldn’t surprise me if the room was offered at a discounted rate on booking.com!
All I’ve read for the last few weeks is the virus is just a cold, more people die from flu etc etc. That’s all well and good but the last time I had a cold I don’t recall paramedics in hazmat suits rushing to the scene, I don’t recall health officials frantically searching for anyone I’d been in contact with. And because China says there aren’t as many cases now, we believe them blindly - China, the country that threatened the doctors who discovered the virus (probably with an extended stay in one of their many correction camps), China the country that controls what the population can view on the internet.
Sorry to be blunt about it all (we’re dooooomed!) but there’s something we aren’t being told. China had a chance to stop the virus but instead stopped the doctors. The UK had a chance to contain it in the small hotel here but failed.
I’m sure most of will be fine, and in years to come we’ll look back and wonder why we were so worried. But as always too much is being left to chance.

From the BBC:
‘Public Health England has advised people who are self-isolating to do what they can to avoid visitors to their home and has urged any deliveries of groceries, medications or other shopping to be left at the door’
Apart from you and me who are still expected to knock on their door and if necessary obtain a signature.

We have been told by our manager that if a customer refuses to sign the pda then we have to write in the signature box Refused MARwacko74 wrote:The least they could do is allow us to sign for items ourselves in the presence of the recipient to avoid scores of different people handling our PDA's every day.
