Not only are they getting away with it and winning contracts... they've completely changed the expectations of the end consumer. Customers expect us to deliver parcels when they aren't at home, as a business it really should be a priority to ensure we can do this, there are fairly straightforward solutions to this. RM seem to be blind to the problem tbh.hero22 wrote:if the competition is leaving parcels all over the place and seem to be getting away with it and winning contracts is it not about time we followed suit but maybe in a more professional way i.e wetproof bags and leave the parcels out of site, all parcels that can be left in a safeplace such as shed etc can be without it stating it on the parcel etc. Just a thought

The pda already tells you what can and can’t be left in a safe place.hero22 wrote:All parcels that can be left in a safeplace such as shed etc can be without it stating it on the parcel etc. Just a thought

Exactly, the amount of customers who have said why cant you leave that like the other couriers etc. I think the majority would be glad of it being left somewhere instead of trailing down to the collection office. Costs royal mail nothing to implement and gives us a more level playing field to compete on. I actually raised this point couple of weeks ago with one of the Ricos ambassadors but the response was " we cant do that, its against company policy ". I feckin know its against company policy but why cant you change it

I know it does. Im saying it would be easier to skip that option and treat all parcels as safeplace parcels if they can be left somewhere genuinely safe i.e shed. The other companies don't care where they leave them and get away with it.Grumpyoldmailman wrote:The pda already tells you what can and can’t be left in a safe place.hero22 wrote:All parcels that can be left in a safeplace such as shed etc can be without it stating it on the parcel etc. Just a thought

That’s because we are regulated and all that entails and the rest are not. That means we take serious hits on the profit margins for failures in services including lost or stolen items.

They are not getting away with it at all. People make no end of complaints about parcels just being left any old place. It is also something I do not want to be held responsible for. Safe place exists already.hero22 wrote:I know it does. Ofcom: The free market works best when one company is tightly regulated and the rest can do as they please.deltaforce wrote:That’s because we are regulated and all that entails and the rest are not. A sheds not a safe place, if you can get into it to leave so can a thief to nick it.

That's pretty much the case with everywhere except a self locking box but RMs definition is different which is why safe place options on your PDA offers things like shed, garage and enclosed porch.celtic1967 wrote:A sheds not a safe place, if you can get into it to leave so can a thief to nick it.
RM make the rules and although we have final say on whether a place is safe or not we have to balance that with customer expectations. This job is ultimately about delivering stuff not being awkward for the sake of it.

Which is fine if the customer takes responsibility and designates the shed as the safe place. It is them taking responsibility for the shed being safe and for if it goes missing. One of us making that decision for the customer places responsibility on us and then it falls on us if it goes missing. Yodel ask you to tick a box that says that you take full responsibilty for it when redirecting to a safe place.
Customers (not parcel receivers), need ease of use service, and options to suit THEIR customers also.
Competitive rates, as i mentioned removing weak links of the business would help.
Posties allowed to use initiative, and be on same rounds to form relationships and allow effeciency.
Among other things that i see brought up time and again.
The way i feel about RM right now, they can change what they want and i couldn't care less. The Union appear to not have much use other than "better wages/working conditions" argument. You can get equal or more money easy enough elsewhere. Don't get me wrong Unions are good, but this whole ordeal is questionable.

It doesn't though. It lets you safeplace 95% of tracked items that don't need a signature (there are a couple exceptions for some reason).Grumpyoldmailman wrote:The pda already tells you what can and can’t be left in a safe place.hero22 wrote:All parcels that can be left in a safeplace such as shed etc can be without it stating it on the parcel etc. Just a thought
I've sat through multiple WTL briefs that have stated we are only allowed to safeplace tracked items that have it printed on the label.

Funny you say that, our old DOM said ignore it all and only go by official walk log safe places. Those Amazon are quite laughable, for example the "leave in porch", yeah that porchless house? Point is, there's little consistency in what we can and can't do. And our rivals continue to pick away at RM. Not saying let's doorstep everything, we could proactively leaflet parcel receivers asking them how we can help them. And/whilst making the point safeplaces are their responsibility not ours. We have dog leaflets after all...

100% this. Why do customers order stuff then not be in for it? Especially when they are notified its coming. Do they order takeaways then pop out for a nice walk? Phone a taxi then go walk the dog? Seems a lack of respect for postal delivery staff sometimes.Ren Hoëk wrote:I really don't see how that is a RM problem? That is an issue with the customers product. We cant leave them outside as customers complain. We cant leave them with neighbours because they complain. We cant bring them back to the office because everyone complains. More Special Delivery flowers that can't be delivered cause Mom ain't in. Good one RM, don't bother offering a suitable service to big national customers
Apparently we didn't get many flowers in the pipeline on Valentine's Day - that's hardly surprising.
The number that get returned to the CSP is embarrassing.
And then either you have to hand over dying flowers to the customer or you have to let them sit there for 18 days before you can RTS,
Truly shocking service for a perishable product.
How about, If you order a product that wont fit through the door either for yourself or someone else. Be in, tell the receiver to be in or designate an official safe place. We aren't miracle workers.

In the case of flowers they are normally ordered by someone else and sent as a surprise present.Mr Cabbage Face wrote: Why do customers order stuff then not be in for it? How the f**k could the recipient know to be in when a surprise present is coming?
They aren't mind readers.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.
