Would a move to the mail centre be a good choice?

Hi all,
Due to recent home problems I am very stressed and it is impacting my health;I spoke to my DOM and he suggested he could get me a temporary move to the mail centre if I was finding my delivery too much at the minute. Has anybody worked both as a postperson and now at a mail centre? Is the mail centre actually a less stressful environment or is it the same amount of stress just a different kind?

If you don't mind having a manager(s) watching over you all the time then you may find the mail centre less stressful. But if you like being your own boss for most of the day then it might not be for you.

I've never done deliveries but I've worked in four mail centres. The type of atmosphere you get varies widely. From stand-around and chat half the time to what Deadly said.

That being said, I've read a lot of posts from people on delivery. There are some duties in a mail centre that are nearly as demanding as being outdoors but it's nowhere near as tiring across the board.

edit: Oh, and showing up hours early for work? Getting the sack for bringing a few letters back? I've never seen anything like that.

I asked delivery guys this question when I first started applying for an RM job and of the 7 I asked 6 said MC was a less pressured environment
Interestingly 3 said they'd resign if they were forced to go back

There are different types of jobs in an MC I think I've worked them all bar being a driver or a manager - parcels are pretty easy but loading/unloading lorries are demanding
Some managers will watch you a bit but I just get on with it

I don't like nights much and they do tend to try and push new people in that direction so I'd think about that

Unless your duty is a really specialist duty like Revenue Protection, you can expect to be moved around different work areas depending on traffic in each work area

Working in Cf/NP postcode area.
Delivery staff are trying to get into Cardiff mail Centre.
Especially the older folks.
But it seems to be a no go.Apart from sick rehabilitation.

Probably to maintain the 2m between people (and I wouldn't be surprised if they were using casuals rather then having people in on ot)
