The thing is members are not told what will happen if a no result comes. A lot of posties are scared it will be all out which a lot will not do. If the union said right if iits to be a no vote we will start with 4 weeks of rolling strikes etc

Sounds like you've given up comrade, I really hope not. I think that most people who have come into this industry over the years, recent or not, have done so more out of necessity rather than a career move. The difference is perhaps the younger ones do not have our background in the labour movement - we have to earn there trust and respect as well as teach them what a union is.

It is my view that the issues you discribe in your office around loss of overtime, full time jobs etc would have happened with or without this deal. Actualy it has been going on in many offices for some time, in some cases years. With the financial state the commpany is in it is enevitable, these attacks will be and have been fought over the years. With thousands of workplaces this sort of thing could never be fought centrally. I have been shocked be people on this site - the self styled left wing militants - who are the ones who believe they can not hold the line. Bizzare really these are the very people who should be able to organise the workers after all they keep telling everybody how to do it. But apparently cant do it themselves. I do not necessarily put you in this camp barkersboy its just an observation.

It also has to be said that if the union controlled things centrally those very people shouting for it now would be arguing against it. They would be calling HQ stalinist dictators. I've seen this happen before in other unions. believe me the CWU is more open and democratic than any other union I have experienced.

Local Reps must go to there Area Reps with diagreements (talk to them in advance if you need to) then if required the Area Rep can pass to Divisional rep. If it cant be resolved a strike ballot can be requested. Also your Branch is there to assist and guide you if you need them.

I have not given up Kill Joy. I will pursue the need of people. I want all people to have full time jobs so they can pay the bills dictated by others. I mean, Income Tax, Council Tax, Rubbish tax need I go on. Our members have to live in a world that is at best bearable, at worst being on the bread line. We are not the average earners of £30k plus, who can afford to go to live shows in London or take exotic holidays in Barbados. We are the ordinary people who need to survive to live.
There is no such thing as a strong union anymore. Other unions have amalgamated to hope that they have the clout to make a difference. The difference has not been achieved. Indeed the law on union activity is such that only individual sections of a union can take industrial action if it affects their part of a business.
You sayl that local reps, should go to Area or Divisional Reps to resolve problems. Hang on a minute. I have not heard any Area Rep or Div Rep say anything against the agreement . So where does the local rep hope to seek support.
If a yes vote is achieved I can not see how branch or division can support the members who are already suffering from RMs executive actions.

I keep the faith. My union will fail me.

I think it will be close : 99% no but at least 1% abstentions.But then again Iam infected with the optomistic virus one symptom of which is an innate respect for the common sense of my fellow workers.

After voting NO myself I still expect it will be a Yes vote because the workforce are fed up with pissing into the wind. If it is a NO vote then I expect Hayes and Co to take that as a vote of no confidence and resign , then we might get somebody with bollox to stand up for us all and :lfo :cfo

You can bet royalmail will use the 48% if you think the turnout will be that low. No matter what anyone vote's so long as they vote for if anyone has not voted their is still time just vote now. ballot close's at 12:00 tomorrow post it NOW!.

lets face it, ward and hayes cant take the embarrassment of a no vote. it will be rigged, that im sure of. say if the no vote wins 52 to 48, they will call it a yes vote. how else was the way backwards agreement voted in!

For the record turnout at last ballot 65.5% of total 77.56% for industrial action and 22.44% voteing no to industrial action lets just see what happens this time. my prediction is 10% more turnout and a 5% swing to rejection of the so called "deal".
