The government would then have to set up its own MCs and distribution hubs in that scenario as the MCs and distribution hubs that get sold off would cease to handle letters and would switch to being purely for parcelsNorthbynorthwest wrote:Once these strikes start they are going to come thick and fast and go on a long time. In the end...the company is renationalised to save the universal service, then mail centres and distribution sold off to the highest bidders, leaving delivery in government hands. Well done Rico and cwu. We are just pawns in the middle, sadly.

Royal mail Changes- Are the union adapting?
I’ve been left Royal Mail just Over 4 years now, the changes I saw before I left were shocking! I still have friends working for Royal Mail and they tell me what’s going on. The union have no idea of the scale of bullying that goes on in deliveryoffices, they’re not bothered as long as they’re sat in warm offices paid for by the average postman. the battle has just begun! Who will win the war?

EXACT. your bang on mate, that's exactly what's going to happen as letter will still need to be delivered albeit every other day or even every 3rd day. It will be heavily subsidised by us the taxpayers when all the fat cats have got their money from RM selling all their buildings and family silver. Rico... He won't give two ..... because he will fly back to euroland laughing all the way to the bank. Fat prick.

The Union are not stuck in the 70's - we should not change to suite greedy shareholders - change needs to be managed and for the good of the service.Northbynorthwest wrote:Once these strikes start they are going to come thick and fast and go on a long time. I agree with what you say except calling it a service, it stopped being a service the day it was privatised. It's a business now and the only thing that matters to royal mail is big business customers who send lots of parcels. That's what the cwu is up against andd I think they will do very well to come out of this intact!Phantom wrote:The Union are not stuck in the 70's - we should not change to suite greedy shareholders - change needs to be managed and for the good of the service.Northbynorthwest wrote:Once these strikes start they are going to come thick and fast and go on a long time. In the examples you gave I would say that the biggest single factor they have in common is management incompetence.
Is there much we can do about that?
Why worry then?

I've seen every attempted reboot of this company from the 90s from the way forward through the Consignia farce, pay and modernisation, business transformation, privatisation and the agenda for growth.
They've all run aground on the rocks of management incompetence, the real dinosaurs dragging the company down. Hooper was right when he doubted management were up to the job of bringing the business into the 21st century. That's as plain as the nose on your face now.

If the union won't work with mangers they are just as much to blame.

Alot of union members would say they have worked too closely with managers and let them get away with ignoring agreements in the recent past. With the stuff royal mail are now trying to do I don't think the union can afford to look like they are in bed with Rico or when all the plan unfolds with the possibility of big job losses and our terms and conditions decimated the union could see a mass exodus with people thinking what's the point of being in the cwu when you end up getting shafted anyway because they just go along with whatever royal mail want???????????????? wrote:If the union won't work with mangers they are just as much to blame.

Every dispute we've had has ended in an agreement, that is all a union can do, it's not the union that works with management it's the staff.???????????????? wrote:If the union won't work with mangers they are just as much to blame.
The union don't come up with the daft ideas and then implement them poorly. Passing the buck onto the union and staff is just another symptom of weak, ineffective management.
